I thought it'd stay as tiny flakes for the rest of the day.. I was wrong.. Decvent sized flakes now coming down fast and covering the driveway.. Reports elsewhere now?

Snow mixed with rain before then stopped but has since returned with a few bigger flakes now, nothing settled at all here typical for this of event though.
Doesnt surprise me about the thunder and lightning should be more too.
Cheers
Jason.

Now starting to settle. Snowing quite steadily last 10 mins or so after it had stopped. :)

My parents who live in Mosgiel near Dunedin say they have had rain there today, no snow.
Recent Canterbury winters have been stealing the snow show from Dunedin. ;)

Settling on the concrete (road, driveway) now, looking pretty white everywhere. Over the cm mark now, bit of grass still showing due to the horizontalness of the snow.

It's now raining. How it rains at 0.8 C, I don't know. Maybe the freezing level has raised, and it's just cooler at the surface?

If it's anything like Dunedin the same happening here. It's still raining down here (I'm at work for a bit, around 40m above sea level) and lots of rain. 24mm so far today (might be a bit of melted snow in that ;) , so anything higher up should be getting a fair whack of snow. A few cars have been around town today with a lot of snow of them

How much did you get? It stopped at our place a while ago, we got about half an inch before it started raining. There's still plenty around, went out to make a snowman just in case it disappears.
