Sleet/rain now in central Chch. One aspect of this storm hasn't yet eventuated, at least Chch, are the severe gale force winds. Just strong and gusty at times here today.

Snow here is hardly disappearing, just becoming a little mushy, I'm guessing that's because we've got sleet rather than rain.

Been for a drive. No snow at all in Riccarton area, a wee bit in Cashmere, truckloads in St Martins and opawa, none at all back through city. Very heavy rain/ sleet at moment, wind really whipping up. 3 degrees, won't take much of a drop to turn it to the flakes again

We too have been out for a drive and a play! up to the higher suburbs near Three Mile Hill, a good 8 -10cm on the ground in Halfway Bush and still snowing, though icy small flakes. Roads slushy up there. Bitter only 1C, 3C down here in North East Valley, persistent driving rain and sleat has eased now and coming through as showers. The Motorway opened briefly at 3.45pm to Northbound traffic to ease congestion of the backlog but I didnt think it would last for long!

Do you think we will get another flick from the tail of the low tonight?

They are ment to peak around 6-7pm from memory.

Tried to go up the hill but roads were closed, so headed up Kennedys Bush road. Not much to see other than a little more snow than CHCH! THen went out to Darfield, tbh not really alot of snow out there, winds were very gusty though.

That wind is getting very, very strong. Also heavy rain for a while which has completely obliterated all snow.

The Avon river in ChCh is peaking near the New Brighton bridge. There will probably be some flooding in that area.

Oh well...was nice while it lasted though, eh? ;) 8)

I don't know about everyone else, but it kinda relaxes me just to sit there and watch it fall...quite tranquil and beautiful stuff, snow....I know it causes headaches for some, but not me...too bad it wasn't cold enough at the surface for it to accumulate to much...

Lessons learned with this one, for sure 8-[ 8-[ ...here's looking forward to the next one, and hopefully more substantial accumulations :D

EDIT: oh yeah, nice looking red bits on the 6pm radar!

There's definitely flooding around, was driving down Effingham St before and one of the cross streets is practically a ford! The water is flowing across Effingham and carrying on!

Reports of damage coming in from TM in Chch:

"Anyone got any damage? So far here in Christchurch, half our back fence is gone, the neighbour's trampoline from over the road came over to see us, then blew next door and over their fence taking out the letterbox on the way."

It's really struggling to do so, but I think where I am at it is trying to turn back to snow from this torrential rain we are having... :-k
