Severe Weather - N/Island - Early July
See Metservice has a severe t-storm watch out for the N/Island, and is forecasting high risk for t-storms for today & tomorrow - thought this might need a separate thread. Lightning trackers showing an increase in activity in the Tasman throughout this morning. Correlated now showing 304 strikes in the last hour.

Yes - big N/S line of thunderstorms from Westport to west of Kaipara at present. New Plymouth will should see the line at around 1pm i'd imagine.
Cloudy with showers here now and 13C, dewpoint's great at 12C.

Re: Severe Weather - N/Island - 2nd/3rd July
A good looking line of thunderstorms with that front.
Locations south of Ak along the west coast look more in the firing esp Taranaki.
Mild 16C dewpoint 12C here, may see some development over the land with the Front ?

Wow gusting 69km/h at Grahams Beach, just a breeze here, high gust for the day 31km/h.
I see the harbours have a squall warning, gusts to 60knots.

a good looking cb went down the coastline...big mama clouds and all as it approached...

Line weakened as it moved in,some TStorms along the west coast from about Wiatomo south. Also a thundery Cb out to sea just to our W currently, looks to be some heavy showers yet to come through here.
Edit. I see strikes also along the Ak/ North Wikato coastline

Re: Severe Weather - N/Island - 2nd/3rd July
Looks to be a narrow broken line of cb's out there this morning coming in fast. If the environment could warm up a bit here ahead of the front we would have a better chance of thunder over Auckland. Instability looks marginal with dewpoints forecast to rise to 14C and upper air only marginally cold.
Looking ahead to Saturday looks like a real wintry thundery cold pool to cross Auckland.

very, very heavy rain in that band, should be a good dampening. hopefully the land does warm a bit more, but the cloud cover is setting in...
