Re: Major Trough from July 19/20th
Looking like after 8pm. Latest GFS is still plotting CAPE around 800j/kg with this line which is good instability for mid winter!Main line of heavy showers and thunderstorms is still a few hours away.

Re: Major Trough from July 19/20th
Owairaka's highest July temperature was 20.0C in 1971.Manukau heads observer wrote:is the 19oC that Auckland got a record for the time of year?
No sun here until about 3.20pm this afternoon, so my daily high is just 16.7C.
Also on another topic, one of the entrances to our local reserve is flooded, the path is submerged (blocked drainage system). At least this time the pathways weren't washed out like in late April/early May.

Re: Major Trough from July 19/20th
Very interesting out there this afternoon.
Very nice spring like clouds about. Sun came out for a while and the temp shot up. Made it get nice and warm.
Strange how warm it is for mid winter
Showers were building towards the west all day. A few up drafts moved just to the west so we ended up missing all showers but there were some very heavy looking ones about. Even the updrafts looked spectacular with some interesting low hanging bowl shaped cloud bases and vigorously rising clouds.
Very reminiscent of USA out there this afternoon

I'm pretty sure NIWA base their current and historical Auckland temps (and sunshine) on Mangere figures. Only rainfall is based on Owairaka figures.David wrote:Owairaka's highest July temperature was 20.0C in 1971...

I have reduced the title of this topic to Trough as I don't think it will be major enough now, sadly ,to maintain the title of this topic as being a Major trough.

Re: A Trough from July 19/20th
Squally light shower went though here, peak gust was 52km/h. Shortly followed by 2 lightning flashes to the east with thunder.
In my opinion, the satellite loop seems to suggest the best CBs are yet to come, there isn't much activity around this evening.

getting a good shower with hail stones throwen into the mix. Can hear them tinging on the iron over the heavy rain.

The condensation today is bad,ie its 10°c outside and its on all windows top to bottom and every side of the house not the wind facing ones and equivalent to the 0 and 1° days a week or so back.

Michael, you obviously either live in a very damp house or have gas-heating?
Get a dehumidifier!

Just very isolated storm activity for the Auckland region overnight, last nights Front was much more active over Northland .

Re: A Trough from July 19/20th
Just had a deluge through here. Very heavy rainfall with some hail near the end of the shower. Plenty of surface flooding, 5.6mm rainfall in 10mins.

Re: A Trough from July 19/20th
amazing Cb structure as it left, quite obviously still in the growing stage. even with the speed it was moving, the anvil was spreading backwards faster! nice inflow too, should be giving east auckand some hell about now.

Re: A Trough from July 19/20th
Have been hearing quite a bit of distant thunder here from a large Cb just to our SW.
