I have seen lightning out to the west of here. Looks like a storm just off the west coast of Auckland.

Spectacular thunder here for the last 15 minutes - one close boom shook the house (such that I heard the tinkling of things being shaken off the inside of the recently-cleaned chimney flue). Can't believe that we haven't lost power supply, as is usual in these occurences...

very heavy rain here too with a flash of lightning somewhere. Not sure where it was.

At 1 or 2 today between my lectures there were some really good mammatus clouds. The rain had only just stoped after raining very steady and rather heavily all day.

that was a very strong thunderstorm. no hail, but lots of CG's and felt fairly powerful. thunder was much louder than weve had for a while.

Could see the lightning followed by distant long rumbling thunder towards the city from here. Also lightning towards the S-SE with no thunder. Skies mostly clear here though since midday (12mm this morn).

not very impressive here to be honest. I don't know how many times now, the lightning and thunder has gotten closer and weakens as it moves inland. Plenty of thunder days this winter, but only one here with overhead thunder. We got heavy squally rain (48km/h gusts, 2mm rain). Perhaps we will see some more sustained/vigorous action tomorrow.

Oh the squally rain has returned!

Watched the storm roll in across Auckland from the top of MtEden.
Took this shot in near gale force winds and heavy rain, lightning over Epsom :D edit-the lightning is striking the tower on top of One Tree Hill.

A good storm but over the western and southern Suburbs. Upper air has cooled off after this mornings front which has lead to the instability.

Yes, quite a nice little thunderstorm and not one of those freezing wind type ones, no/little wind from it here and a 3 second delay for one of the BOOMS! very nice way to end Sensing Murder

I think the Lightning strike in the other photo above is hitting the top of Mt Hobson, Remuera.

Photo - Sheet Lightning over West Auckland, Cg went down just to the left , missed that one.

Good attempt spwill. Yes, lightning in top photo looks like its hitting something elevated.

You can see the Lightning Cg in this shot in the left hand corner, looking south so it will be over South Auckland

Great photos spwill. Mt Eden seems to be a great vantage point for viewing these storms.

Hmmmm...oh well...the low looks as though it has stalled and has changed course...bugger....
Overnight model runs have changed and I am no longer confident of snow to sea level for CHCH, anyway...
THK levels too high now...a lot of rain? yes....sigh..... #-o ](*,) :(

Looks like more thunder/hail possible today for Auckland as upper airmass cools further. Lower North Island will get the best of the instability today by the looks.

The UKmet model brings the deepening low fairly close to NZ as well. One to watch for sure.
