Apparently the sea was pretty rough here last night, waves crashing over the sea wall at St Clair, will try and take a look later.

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Persistent steady rain here this morning in Christchurch with 23.8mm so far today at Jeffs Weather Station and a Rain Radar that is looking quite intense with still a lot to fall. Mt Hutt has had between 55-60cm of new snow! It is still heavily snowing there with another 30cm expected there today! 23.8mm here already so that 20-50mm that Blue skies originally thought is looking good. 50mm is definately a real possibility!

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Hi everyone,
Just dropped the kids off at the school bus and it is sleeting at our place. Officially we are just west of 235m contour line, as the nice people at CPW want to pop a headrace canal across the front of our property. We have had 33 mm of rain since yesterday 8am.
Cheers

This from Metservice in article.
"Snow expected in Chch
Snow could fall in Christchurch for the third time this winter during the next day.
"MetService severe-weather forecaster Bob Lake said the southerly would be at its coldest today, with snow expected.
"It will get progressively colder, and snow will be down to quite low levels tomorrow," he said yesterday.
"Down to 200m to 300m over the Canterbury Plains area and down to fairly low levels on the Port Hills, and they probably could get some on the hill suburbs.""

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Yeah, i agree. Its consistently staying around 6.5 - 7 degrees here. Way too warm. However, up to 28mm here now and still plenty more to come it seems, at this stage anyways.

Looks like she's all over, rover..."there's nothing to see here, move along, move along..."
Just a cold, dreery day here in CHCH...don't think I have ever seen a thermometer stay that consistent on one temp for so long (see Jeff's weather site)...got sick of seeing 6.6 all the time... ...unless, of course, it is broken, but it doesn't appear to be...

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Interesting I just noticed the latest MSLP runs now have significant moisture over us on the 6pm model run now which is when the air is at its coldest so there could be a few flakes seen this evening.
Intially the precipitation was minimal and wouldnt be heavy enough to bring the freezing level down, I just hope i am right on this one but definatly sleet thats for sure.
If not we have some humdinger lows lining up for next the one mid week could spell trouble we will have to see .
Currently 5.2C outside with cold rain and a breezy southerly which was quite strong and gusty overnight.
BTW Mark the 20-50mm was for Sunday from Blue skies, but that was forecast a few days ago and had since changed so i dont think we will see anywhere near 60mm.
Cheers
Jason.

No hint of any seriously cold weather down here.
Even the hills surrounding Dunedin 700metres plus have no snow on them.

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Yes, but even before they were saying 20-50mm for Sunday, they were saying for Thursday a couple of days prior to that (way back). Anyways significant mositure at 6pm? Dont think so its very scattered now. Short sharp showers. 43mm today.

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Just ever so slightly OT here:
Anyone else see the loop of the snow piling up on the Mt Hutt Webcam on the MS site?...we then get treated to what I can only make out to be a mini-snowman smiling at us after someone has cleaned off the lense...

yes, looking closely I can just make out a pair of eyes and a smile, maybe that's why the snow was cleaned of the lense to show off their snowman?

Re: The Next Dose of Winter to Hit Us!
Its not settling on the ground. Just stopped. Was some decent flakes. There a nice looking intense bit moving on. This stuff is so slow moving, whats left of these very very scattered short sharp showers so if it does land on you it stays for a fair bit. 9.15 am shows it moving in towards CHCH, just SW to the city atm.
