Hey guys,

Im on the shore here in auckland, very calm, mostly just heavy wind, rain and alot of environmental rubbish on the roads (leaves/branches etc) aswell as plastic bags things like that.

Has the storm passed auckland already? I am reading from the media alot that it lands on us around 12pm but the pictures of the storm, show that the storm is over the BOP area at midnight.....

Kinda strange how the media has turned this into "something massive" when infact it is a strong storm in many areas which have flooded etc but they seemed to focus on auckland, when infact its not that bad here....

SO is it still to come at 12pm or has it passed?

So does anyone know if its passed auckland yet? or is it still to come...... most on trademe are like getting sick of hearing media etc saying "OMFG ITS BAD AS!" yet its just heavy rain/wind.......

Northland got a good mention on TV3

The storm damage around my suburb was far greater last year and the swell on Auckland Harbour was much larger in the 97 summer cyclones.

We still have Gale South Westerlies to come overnight.

Yea, I think NZ is too slender at the northern areas from say around north waikato up so storms just seem to die when they reach us.

All I want to know from the weather buffs here if the "worst" is still to come at midnight, or if its kinda past and we only got the scraps to get through.

The strongest winds for Auckland I think have passed... but the centre of the low will pass through the Hauraki Gulf tonight which doesn't always bring the windiest weather.

A question also...

Where is the "eye" of the storm, is it the smaller circle where the cloud turns into itself, or the larger mass of cloud?

I presume theres bad weather around the whole belt of cloud as it spins.... so if we are in the "eye" at the moment it will swing back around for the "other side" of bad weather?

On the 7pm radar image it looks to be a new front forming as the cloud is wraped all the way around the low centre. Judging by that it is just north of auckland.

Still getting some very good gusts.

Heard of a few people about the region having lost power at some stage today. We have had lights flicking but thats the worst. Havnt lost any trees but expecting to loose one somewhere during the night. Many of the neighbours have lost trees.

The the high ground over northern NZ such as the Coromandal ranges gives Auckland some protection.

There is no eye (as in the sense of the eye of a hurricane). What you see on the sat pics is the occlusion wrapping around the mature low. This happens all the time on satellite images (but not very often right over where we live!)

I see the wind is now southwest at cape reinga and is gusting to 120km/hr. So these are the gale to severe gales I mentioned earlier.

Hi All - been out for the past couple hours - can anyone tell me what the lowest pressure reading has been so far?? And is the low still deepening? I've been flat out with interviews and haven't had a chance to check for a while.

Though we did have gusts today this will be so tame compared to the SW side which will bring banging windows,no not just pine needles as normal here but twigs and pine cones and of course the whistling noise it makes.

Power just back on here on Waiheke. Oneroa station back online http://www.waihekeweather.net/Oneroa/peninsula.htm (looks like the data logger didnt work Ricky) I climbed up on the roof of the Winery at approx 4:30 and replaced the anemometer.

just had a power flick here. 1st of the day. sounds pretty nasty out there right now. i can understand how Te Aroha and Morrinsvile have been hit hard. Wind is probably at its strongest now jugding by the sound of the roar by the gum trees outside.
