What was the coldest wind chill today? The airport had -4 at 10 but I'm sure it would of been colder

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Just had a phone call from Dad. He lives in Porirua, just north of Wellington. There have been a few snow flurries at his place in the last half hour, he's about 25m above sea level overlooking Porirua Harbour. Nothing heavy but definitely snow.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Its definately looking a lot brighter and clearer now. I went for a quick drive and caught a snow shower out cashmere way again. There is more than you think on the hill suburbs. However, i dont really see much more evntuating, maybe the odd sleet shower but i think that could be it for anyone not on the hills

Mark, are you kidding? You said over an inch in Halswell, but here in Prebbleton, less than 5 mins away, we have nothing. Nothing at all.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
really? yes we did have 3cm in the backyard around 9am, quite a bit has melted now. From driving around it seems that some areas nearby have hardly been affected and other areas have had a lot more. Its very interesting. The scattered showers keep seeming to like cashmere this morning.
snow flurries here again

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Rimutaka Hill Road now closed by snow as well. A couple of snow flurries here, but we are at the base of the Rimutakas.... nothing settling on the ground. Surprised to hear of snow in Porirua!

Yeah, apparently the Rimutaka Hill Road was closed at 8am and MetService was quoted as saying the hill suburbs of Wellington could be 'whitened' later on today.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
Mum just said that there have been a couple more light showers of snow. Melts as soon as it hit the surface. They live in the suburb of Papakowhai if anyone knows where that is. Generally when there's any snow in the vicinity of wellington, the western areas miss out. It's normally the Hutt suburbs that get the snow if any is about.
The Hill overlooking Porirua is Colonial Knob. It's peak is around 460m above sea level. Mum said there's nothing up there yet. I've only ever seen snow on there twice. So it's definitely a rear event for the area.

Re: WINTERY BLAST STARTING FRIDAY 8TH
inny binny, snow can be very isolated, you could be in the same suberb and three streets down could be snowing heavily and you could get nothing at all.Inny Binny wrote:Mark, are you kidding? yes id say about 2cm in my area not 3 though
