A collection of about 100 sites, only ones with current records of reasonably long standing included (lengths of records vary from 30-odd to over 100 years). Monthly and yearly values shown as a % of days, along with yearly average number of days. Note: The threshold is 1.0mm or more.

I see Dunedin is very consistent year round - about a third of the days get a mil or more of rain.

There's numbers for Kelburn and Paraparaumu. Hutt Valley would be similar I think, fairly straightforward winter max and late summer min (Jan-Mar).
Re Dunedin - changes are indeed small, but there's a slight double max & min which correlate with similar changes in cloudiness.
