Im not sure about that, it certainly looks more like a monday night and all tuesday and wed morning thing now though. GFS models have slightly higher precipitation totals as well and they have been consistent all week so did change just a little. If you look at M/S 7 day maps its showing another significant low developing from the southern tasman and working its way over all New Zealand again. Looks like heaviest falls will be central plateau, westland and the alps in Canterbury as well but much more precipitation in Canterbury. Its got a low of 967hpa at one point. Its a long way away but something to keep an eye on. ;)

Thats interesting to hear about the snow in hokitika certainly a rare event for there.
Could be a chance for thunderstorms and hail this evening with passage of the trough going through, it will be short and sharp though.
Certainly a mild day out there scrappy cloud about and a few weak bits of CU now showing up near the Port Hills.
Yes the following weekend looks interesting as well, but lets get through this one first.
Cheers
Jason.

Snowing heavly here in Invercargill, my sisters outside taking photos now so I shall upload later, starting to settle a bit despite the very wet ground.

Hi. Don't you think that it is getting abit warm for much more snow? Sure thing that we used to get a lot of snow late in the year back in the old days but we haven't seen much snow in August or September for a long time --- probably not since the late 1980s in my memory. The temperature is definitely raising this last month. What I wonder is that if this snow that we got the passed week or 3 was to have fallen in June or July? I think it would have been a very big snowfall because it was a lot colder in those months than now.

There is colder air coming in waterboy though there won't be a repeat performance of that amazing cold pool that occurred over the west of the South Island.

The NW here was very cold here yesterday. It was only 6ºc with the Nor-wester bowing and the wind-chill would of been much lower.

Could it be snowing further north too? Geraldine station reporting about 0.7deg and 1.5mm/hour. temp dropping.
Nothing happening in Chch.

I didn't think it would be getting that cold, maybe its wrong

Hi --- It could be snowing there. It is coming down quite hard here tonight. I would say it is almost 6 inches deep on the ground right now. Actually you know it is probably less. I will go out and measure it in the morning.

Certainly the numbers, at least, would suggest very low level snow (possibly even sea level) for late MON/TUES for here in CHCH...not sure how widespread it will be, probably similar to what we had last weekend...

Fresh dusting of snow above about 600m around Akaroa from overnight showers. Looks like it's clearing now.
