Pretty sure i heard thunder too from a shower just west of here,
Yes Jason, there was a lightning strike just north of CH according to lightning data. A few strikes around Kapiti coast this evening as well.

I agree tgsnoopy, I thought that just after posting. They always have those graders 24/7 along the road.

The radar just is not moving. It is stuck for the last 3-4 hours. Metservice saying sleety showers easing tomorrow afternoon, yet we dont have persistent sleety showers for anything to ease.

How are you Christchurch people doing tonight? Nice and cold enough for ya! If it's cold in Auckland you know it's VERY cold where you are!! Sorry you didn't get any snow in the city today...I feel bad for getting any hopes up last week!! :-)

Couple of snow showers of late around hill suburbs but its so scattered and out to sea that its only produced about 1-2mm all day long :(

Marlborough to Southland
Showers, some heavy about coastal Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast, with sleet to near sea level, becoming confined to north Canterbury and Banks Peninsula tomorrow afternoon with severe frosts developing elsewhere at night.

....ah yeah ok...what a joke

That would have been the cell to the north which tony reported seeing lightning from.
Just had a brief snail shower or tiny grapel.
Cheers

Don't be silly.
He is a head weather analyst and forecasted snow, but our changeable weather gave us nothing. Myself and others also thought we would be getting some snow today.

 No! :-) But for some of the guys in here who still don't read weather maps that well, or who LOVE snow, I hope I didn't get their hopes up by talking about the possibility of it last week.

Mind you...I would LOVE to have a contract with nature...what a GREAT idea! I wonder who i can talk to about that?? :-)

There was a thunder/hailstorm over kapiti this evening. Maybe a bit of convergence there. That region seems to have got most of the action weather out of this trough.

2.8 degrees here now. Any precipiation will be falling as good snowy sleet because the temp drops when the shower pockets come through.

Maybe there is some to come;
HEAVY SNOW WARNING
BANKS PENINSULA AND PORT HILLS : From 9pm Monday to 9am Tuesday, snow showers will probably bring 10 to 15cm of snow in some places down to 300 metres with lighter falls to about 100 metres. The bulk of it is expected to fall overnight Monday. After that snow showers should become lighter and less frequent.

But most seem to be over BP/hills prob just a few flurries overnight.

Another one lining up near Rakia on the 9pm radar, they only take about 30 minutes to travel a long distance.
Might not be enough to settle but sure is fun to stand out in with flakes falling on ya :D .
Cheers

Nothing on this side of the Dunedin hills, just really cold (1.9) and rain on and off.

All these events this winter and we've basically missed out on the serious snow ;( All I wanted was one or two serious falls at the 180m mark, like 2007. Is that really too much to ask? :?:
