the highs are certainly fighting for dominance in the face of fairly stiff opposition from the various lows.. weather is the winner on the day :) full credit

I wonder how high the high will get too?
Will it tip the 1050hPa mark?

Looks like a mainly dry stable 7 days ahead for Auckland. The NE flow early week will bring in a little bit of 'anticyclyclonic gloom' with even a few light showers, but by Auckland standards a dry week ahead, hopefully more sunshine than clouds. I think the 'big wet 2008' is finally over. I doubt temps will lift much this week, staying close to average.

Yes, Auckland looks fairly sheltered this week.

Good to arrive back to a dry Auckland after spending the past week in dry Sydney. The weather has been on the cool side over there with a lot of onshore wind but quite sunny last week.

I have been weather-watching for 49 years, this is the first time that my baro has topped 1040mb. (topped at 1040.7) I have never seen 1050 in this region.

What a beautiful morning we have here in Christchurch. Not a cloud in the sky and a warmer North East Breeze at the moment. Im hoping it becomings northerly later today so we can hit 20 degrees. Im picking thats a real chance. Metservice are only forecasting 16 degrees today now but at the moment it is already 15.3 degrees (9.45am) and climbing :D.

Make that 18.7 degrees now!! (11am)

I think he must have refered to the center of the high...which is forecast to get to an amazing 1049 or 1050!
and the 1040 isobar line should move north of here...so I might get over 1040 yet!

Some rather heavy showers in Hamilton this afternoon.Shot but sharp showers. Sort of strange seeing such heavy rain in an intense high pressure system.

Off to the snow again for a couple of days tomorrow. Should get some more great weather down there.

/noob question / statement alert.. 0_o

Any chance of anything exciting happening when that southerly change comes through on wednesday? Like... a small chance of thunder and lightning? Or aren't the dew points high enough?

Hardly worthy of comment Mark - a very common feature all around the country, I'm sure you've seen it many times before. Try googling Mammatus and see what you find out.

Altocumulus mammatus. It occurs near the front east of the alps under NW conditions. Google to find out how mamma forms. A sign that the West Coast was getting lots of rain.
