Bit of snow tomorrow?
PORTERS PASS
Rain during Thursday morning is likely to turn to snow above about 400 metres as
southerlies bring falling temperatures. Between 3am and midnight Thursday 10 to
15cm could settle near the summit and lesser amounts down to about 400 metres.
Cool I am drving up to the headwaters of the Rakaia in the morning, must take the camera

Re: Bit of snow tomorrow?
Cold wet day in Chch - 7C max, about 14C colder than yesterday. Snow did fall on the inland high country, probably down to about 500 or 600m. 6pm weather map looks misleading, with a ridge pushing onto Canterbury, making it look as if it should've cleared.

I was in the High County at Glenfalloch yesterday. Massive amount of rain in the rivers from the onset of the Spring NW season, but nothing unusual for this time of year. Snowline looked to be about 800-1000m

Re: Bit of snow tomorrow?
I had to go out to Hawarden yesterday and i was very surprised as i was 5 mins away from there and suddenly the rain turning to quite thick snow and it was settling on the ground. I was not expecting to see any snow at all! I dont know how many metres above sea level hawarden is??? Plenty of sodden paddocks still. Rain radar this morning still suggesting further one or two heavy falls possible, lying SW of the city at the moment. Dont think this next coming low has got much in store for Canterbury really.

Not looking like this low is going to come to much on Monday and Tuesday. Looks pretty quick moving. Christchurch City Weather site looking like the site favouring rain more than anyone else. I see they have changed their domain name lol. They can spell now. Few more areas to it too.

Looks like your site is predicting some rubbish weather on the way Mark...

Re: Bit of snow tomorrow?
I was in Queenstown last week with my course and no not for gay ski week .
On Monday afternoon it was blowing a gale Westerly at Tekapo and bloody cold as it was coming off the snow after all. Had some brief Patches of rain overnight but fine by the morning.
Trip from Tekapo to Queenstown was great, although it did start raining a little when we were on the luge in the afternoon.
We were meant to be on the Shotover Jet on Wednesday morning but it was cancelled due to high river levels so we got to do that on the Thursday morning instead which i must say was a good wake up after a night in town .
It rained until about 11am on the Wednesday, but had cleared up in time for a cruise on the Earnslaw across to Walter Peak farm to see the old man and his highland cattle.
Then at night it was briefly sleeting in Queenstown with a dusting evident the next day to around 450m of course Queenstown being around 350m.
All in all a great trip and to come back to overcast skies in the big smoke on Friday .
Cheers
Jason.
