Another Depression from off the Queensland Coast

Unread post by NZ Thunderstorm Soc »

Looks like another depression moving over the country from Monday from the NE, which makes a change from the wet weekends of recent.

Yeah, it's been hosing down in Sydney today. No lightning yet, quite quiet for this time of the year I'm told.

(Edit - Spelling, thanks to those who pointed it out)

Auckland rain radar tonight looks like some kind of weird CGI tribute to the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony...

Wow, very colourful. Someone needs to reset a processor somewhere by the looks of that.

This time of the year is reliable for sunny dry weather in Sydney ( usually) with the Thunderstorm season starting in October as dewpoint levels rise then.

Some warm 15C dewpoints here tomorrow hopefully.

Looks like some blustery rainy weather for the country with this next low. A bit of a ho hum event I think but looks to be a chance of thunderstorms/hail in the western/central North Island on Wednesday as cold upper air comes thru along with a surface trough.

The Low gave Sydney it's coldest September day in 35 years on Saturday.

Should be a mild week for Auckland with the flow NW until Thursday.

Very blustery here atm with some big N'erly swells - just 6mm in the 6 hrs to 9am.

I see Bean Rock in Auckland's Waitamata Harbour recorded winds of 63 km/h at 9am this morn with Whangaparaoa not far behind. Earlier this morn in the Hauraki Gulf, Tiritiri Lighthouse recorded winds of at least 78 km/h with Channel Island on at least 72 km/h.

Cape Reinga also recorded 96 km/h at midnight .

Yes not much of a rain feature but quite windy - peak gust 60km/h here at 9:11am. Just 7mm of rain since 12am. Perhaps some local heavy falls this afternoon if a convergence line forms as metservice suggests could happen.

Issued by MetService at 08:31am 08-Sep-2008
COROMANDEL PENINSULA AND RANGES OF WESTERN BAY OF PLENTY
In the six hours from 9am to 3pm today expect 50 to 60mm of rain. Heaviest falls may reach 20mm per hour.
Not a bad call - Enviro-Waikato currently shows 95mm at the Coromandel's Golden Cross site and 80mm at the Pinnacles, most of which fell since 6am.

Winds and rain have eased here with 16 mm so far.

Yes, fog about this evening with a gusty wind.

Some good moisture there, we'll see what comes with tomorrow mornings front. Pity it wasn't coming thru later in the day after some warming.

There have been a few thunderstorms on the front out to sea early this morning, some strikes showing up not far from Brian's place, also around the Kaipara heads.. otherwise lots of action port Waikato south
DP and temp at 15 C here 5:40 am so not too bad start despite the not so cold upper temps

Yes, the action has shifted down the coast to western Waikato. Maybe Hamilton will catch a thunderstorm. Hopefully more cb's can pop up our way before the front goes thru.

A warm morning across much of the NorthIsland with the rather humid air.

A few Cb clouds popping up Nothland to Waikato, shame we dont have the daytime heating to boost things.

Another good cell developed over eastern Northland and has now moved out to sea.

Just a brief light shower here, mostly cloudy 17C.
