Anticyclones Coming Up
Even tho' I hate them, except for conditions leading to thunderstorm development, I think after this weather episode with Ivy, etc, the weather will get gradually boring as I have noticed the anticyclones are starting to get stronger as they track east.
Well we are moving into a 'labelled' autumn season
Not looking forward to the months ahead

Yes, well that's what they have been saying in these parts.Michael wrote:Looks an early winter to me(Summer ended at the end of January here)
Actually I prefer a cold winter rather than a mild one.
I'd rather be sitting around a fire on a cold night, or lying in a hot bath hearing the wintry hail showers on the roof, rather than having it about 10oC and cloudy outside or an Auckland winter
Calm smoggy nights can be a bit of a bummer tho

Even though I reckon for more anticyclones to pass over, it dosen't look good at the moment for the North Island again late next WE and early next week as a deepening low moves SE towards the South Island from the Coral SEA
Alot of North Islanders will be thinking ... when is it going to end?

After a cool southery (quite cold in the south - freezing level should drop to 1200 metres) predicted for the next few days, it looks like a settled spell for quite a few days. Finally, there are no warnings in MetService's Severe Weather Outlook. The only signs of any future change are provided by the ultra long-range UNISYS model, which suggests a low (not a TC - only deepening after leaving southeast Queensland coast) crossing central NZ in about a week's time. But a week is a really long time as far as forecasts are concerned.

Yeah, an anticyclone of about 1030 hPa is the only way to do that for Auckland for nice sunny weatherMichael wrote:Would be great to have the unusual weather here like a big anticyclone and clear blue skies(pretty rare these days)
Here in ChCh we can have a nice sunny blue-dome day at 966 hPa !!

Sounds good so far - altho they say we are in for showers and thunder tonight in the north?? All sat pics look good to me - however im a newby obviously! Really worried about Sat as i have bout 16m3 of concrete to lay on a hill - no way will the trucks be able to slide up hill if even one more rain drop falls!! Cant put off any longer as expecting rain to start about now and finish in October like last year.

I say you will be OK for Saturday. This oncoming anticyclone seems to be the biggest one for a while with central millibar pressure set to exceed the 1030hPa mark. You should be pleased about this one, Michael ?????Ratrover wrote:Sounds good so far - altho they say we are in for showers and thunder tonight in the north?? I heard Spherics (sp?) on the radio early this morning - that must mean thunder, though probably far away, as weather in Chch this morning didn't seem very thundery. But raining on and off today - breaks in the cloud at times this afternoon, but no let up in the showers. Cold fresh southerly giving a wintry feeling to the day. Must be some fresh white stuff on the mountains.

Finally started to clear in Chch in the last hour - just a few shower clouds in the distance now. But the showers were pretty frequent prior to that, with a briefly heavy one early in the morning. All liquid precipitation though, but could've easily have been small hail elesewhere in the area. Still a fresh, wintry southerly blowing. Cold tonight if it clears and the wind dies down - light frosts forecast for inland.

NOW you're getting it!wxgirl wrote:The sky is bluer ... the mushrooms are bigger ... and a SW gale is one of those subjects talked about at the pub by the old timers "i remember we had a SW wind once that blew to a whole 15 knots ... blew that little leprauchaun right off his two headed dragon" ....
If it stops raining after a week, the weather is said to be "changeable" down here. I tell people that old Auckland joke about how, "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes", but they don't get it.
