Southerly has gone through with a hiss and a roar few strong gusts at times, also some brief spots of rain.
Looks like its about over now southerly should die off soon, although i think there could be showers developing in South Canterbury could this be the trough :?: .
If the southerly dies and a NE kicks in there might be something tonight.
Cheers
Jason.

Temp has pretty much halved today.
Gusty and spots of rain, easing off now, but doesn't have a storm feeling to it :(

Looking at the lightning detectors and rain radar it seems to me that the thunderstorms are going to come into the waikato area if the westerlys continue. That means waikato could get some storms tonight.
Seems very windy atm.

Temp has pretty much halved today.
What, so it's now -123 degrees now?

Definitely doesn't look like storms.

Hmm, but half of 25 C is -124 C. Because 0 is not the lowest you can get, -273 is.

That's just one of those things that annoys me. Instead of mini-tornados. :P

OK, I'll be quiet now.

Not very interesting. :|
I think the wind with the Sw change was stronger than the NW winds of today, though?
Only trying hard to drizzle now 8-o

Well was a beautiful day today in Christchurch especially around lunch time it got rather hot and humid for a time with that southerly that surged up.
Storm chances gone i think today, even with light NE that may kick in later but i think this S will be with us for most of night.
Tuesday/Wensday sounds interesting and one to keep watch for.

cheers

its not looking all that great for here....Hamilton might get a few claps of thunder...not enough to go racing down into the Waikato for!
still, something might eventuate for us, from out of the NW, yet...

The storm chase day for northerners, if there is one, will be Wednesday I reckon.

as for tonight, I would be surprised if Waikato gets a storm, I think the most likely spot is upper Northland, and even then, the instability looks like it will be marginal up there.

A cool evening for Auckland, only 15C with a dewpoint of 11C.
I see the TS activity on the Front has died.

Yea it has too, there may be a possibility of TS tomorrow as it seems to be relatively sunny as the the low gets replaces with a high, hot and cold air mix thunderstorm ingredients right there.
As you can tell I am an optimist so what the main thing that everyone will be watching for this week is Altocumulus Castellanus (called the instability cloud) that will mainly tell if we are going to get TS at anytime.

Not tomorrow Tornado Tim but the trough due mid week looks hopeful.

Must be some explosive fireworks display nearby to here, keep getting frequent, deep, short vibrating rumbles - its uncanny how much it sounds like a real storm in the distance! Pity it isn't a real storm :(

I heard the same thing David i am in the south island, i know there is fireworks at woodfordglen but this was before they went off.
It was like a loud roar and even enough to shake the ground slightly, other people i text in the region said they heard and felt something too even though there is nothing on EQC yet hmm strange.
Cheers
Jason.
