A newspaper report at the weekend said that my near neighbours were not back in their house yet even though the roof is all fixed and the place now looks fine from the outside. Apparently water damage is the lasting problem.
The tornado must have been intense where it contacted the ground but quite narrow. The track of damage was very much just one house/section wide. Right next to trees that where uprooted others where fine. Here is one of the photos I took that morning that shows this.

if my house was damaged by such an event "mini" would not be the description I would use... Niwa, just like most other scientific organisations look at things from a completely diferent perspective... I am sure you will agree.

Yea I am soo sick of people calling NZ tornados Mini, they arent. Especially if they rip a roof off and make the whole house cave in.
I would like to have a chat to the person that defines these events as"mini tornados", they make it sound like it was like a dust devil.
I don't understand how these could be rated mini when Dr Fujita made up the Fujita scale and called a F1 a moderate tornado, since when does the term moderate = mini?
Would these reporters/(NIWA especially) or whoever make these stupid comments get there facts straight.

Interesting to see both Auckland and Christchurch were significantly cooler than normal. October certainly felt like a cool month. And I suspect November will stay cool as well.

Mini as far as Tornadoes go. MetService like to call them weak tornadoes.sick of people calling NZ tornados Mini, they arent. Especially if they rip a roof off and make the whole house cave in.
I agree Niwa were wrong to call the Cambridge Tornado a mini Tornado.
