Mid November Weather
Looks like high pressure will dominate NZ's weather this week but rain/showers never look far away in the models, particualrly in the north and west. A moister airmass over the country from mid week may open up convective possibilities for inland parts.

Re: Mid November Weather
I see Metservice going for 23oC on Tuesday in Auckland, and 26oC in Hamilton, with southeasterlies. Hottest day here so far this spring is only 20.8oC way back in September, so this may finally be the start of a warming period as we approach summer?

Re: Mid November Weather
Yeah it's looking MUCH warmer than normal during the day starting from Tuesday in inland and western areas. The 12Z GFS showing 26C Hamilton maxima Wed-Thurs, then 25C Fri-Sat. Pretty unusual to see that in November, let alone December!!
Will undoubtedly welcome afternoon-evening heat showers on the North Island ranges.

Re: Mid November Weather
Rather mild old day in Christchurch today! might see few spits tonight as high cloud thickening at the moment.
otherwise a beautiful weekend and plenty of sunshine yesterday.
Bit of a shame the week that's coming to an end didn't eventuate any thunderstorms and instead a little bit of snow aahhh well next time then!

Cant wait for those temps. Snow boarding then wake boarding a couple of days apart. What more could you ask ?

Re: Mid November Weather
Atleast it's looking nice this week for the Cup and Show week in Canterbury, normally it's either a warm and gusty NWer or thunder and hail but perhaps not this year around the punters will be happy .
Might be an outside chance for some thundery showers inland on Tuesday afternoon/evening and spreading North East wards wipping up a SW change breifly.
Next weekend looks like another deep low could well move onto the country again, here's hoping this one brings some good storms.
Cheers
Jason.

Yeah, Gale-force ENE'ers further out in the Gulf, with Tiritiri Lighthouse reporting 63 km/h winds at 4pm, Channel Island slightly less and Cape Reinga also at 61 km/h. Not so noticeable here on Waiheke though - very sunny but surf's up!

Re: Mid November Weather
Only fresh NE here today unlike the 1025hpa scenario of high pressure just NW of cape reianga and a spacing of 10hpa between here and Christchurch where it spaces out over the chathams and we cop it.

Re: Mid November Weather
CU tops are closer than they look actually but the showers are further north yes.
Although I did notice a possible heavy shower around the Mt Thomas area coming home, which had quite some height to it.
Tomorrow should be better for inland showers maybe a few thundery ones breifly.
A return to spring we as we know it today .
Cheers
Jason.

Perhaps 16-17C dewpoints for northern NZ later in the week.

Re: Mid November Weather
Very warm out indeed. I can even see a wide cloud build up to the south of Hamilton. Not sure where it is as its not on the radar yet but it centainly is starting to get some height and width.

Re: Mid November Weather
it will feel warmer than 21 in CHCH because of the higher humidity and hotter sun too being further north (when you are outside)

Re: Mid November Weather
Warmer this morning with that Lee southerly, more NE this afternoon has pulled the temperature back to 20C.
Surprised that there isnt much CU inland today, the higher dew points do make it feel warmer yes.
Cheers

Re: Mid November Weather
Its looking very warm and dry for the next few days at least. 32 tomorrow in Alexandra forecast! Its meant to be 28 down here in Timaru tomorrow and only 18 back home in CHCH? Why 10 degrees difference between 2 relatively close cities? I bet it gets a lot warmer than 18 degrees in CHCH. I think we will see 30 degrees in some isolated Canterbury inland areas tomorrow. Some CU forming inland down here in South Canterbury. Very nice day!!!

Re: Mid November Weather
It looks to be northwesterly just above the surface in Otago/South Canterbury tomorrow, but northeasterly more likely at the surface.MarkThomas wrote:Its looking very warm and dry for the next few days at least. 32 tomorrow in Alexandra forecast! But in Christchurch it's just a northeasterly right through the lowest layers.

Hmmm interesting metservice said 23oC for today, but my high of 21oC was hours ago, and the temperature won't rise any further...
