Apparently the whole of the NI is not supposed to be getting thunderstorms. I beg to differ- CB's are popping up left right and center for the Waikato.
I just checked the maps and Aucky and Waikato residents may get a thunderstorm as a second small front passes through.
I think that may be around the 19-20th Nov (please correct me if I am wrong)
Ill post a pic soon.
Update: Pics posted, Looking north is seems quite good there too.

Re: Cumulonimbus Clouds popping up all over the Waikato
i think it will be only shallow convection, i.e not much action, for waikato northwards
eastern NI is a dfiferent story, especialy with day time heating and WSW winds ahead of the colder southerly change

some definite activity over auckland this morning, but i dont think thunderstorms are on the cards unless something triggers them, or we get a lot of heating.. and with this cloud cover it may not happen.
also, the 1am sounding in whenuapai isnt very promising. unless we get a cold upper pool later in the day, nothing much will develop.

Hi Tim,
I doubt very much that those clouds wall fall into a 'Cb' category with such high bases and lack of glaciation.
These are a more shallow convective Cu and the high bases suggest a relatively low Dp.
Normally in the Waikato the Cb's that do form have very sharp cauliflower-like edges on them with much lower bases indicative of colder temps aloft and a more agreeable Dp to Cb formation.
As summer approaches the chances of Cb's over the waikato will greatly increase

Just some rolling Cu around here at Kinleith but only short breaks between with strong sunshine, the heights are minimising the heating affect and so is the 20km/hr WSW. We did have three showers come through earlier this morning. Humidity at home is 64% and DP depression is 6.5ºC at home, temp 16.5ºC.

I beg to differ.Tornado Tim wrote:Apparently the whole of the NI is not supposed to be getting thunderstorms. I beg to differ- CB's are popping up left right and center for the Waikato.
No CBs anywhere in the Waikato today, just look at IR imagery and see if you can find any cold tops. Good luck. Those photos you posted are indicative of fair weather cumulus and very little more than that.
The thunderstorm charts from Metservice today worked out pretty accurately today. At least, you could see their thinking, and we know nothing can be certain.

I was meaning when the front passes over the NI. Not just today or tommorow. As you can tell i am a optimist not a pessimist.
I just looked at the graphs afterwards what I posted. Wrong judgement.
Today looks like a nice fine day.
