Yes very wet in town with moderate to persistant falls mainly because of bigger rain drops, back out this way still dry although does look to have been a few spots.
More widespread rain will set in tonight with some heavy falls perhaps.
Latest models want to run this rain until about midday tomorrow before clearing, then a SW change brings in scatterd showers in the evening.
Cheers

Rain Radar at 4pm shows very big narrow blue line right up against the coast just out to sea, if that moves over could get some very decent rain. Its been all around us for most today if it was slightly further west then we would have got a lot more rain

Sigh.. a very busy looking rain radar for recent hours yet I doubt we got 1mm here in Chch today.
I'm not liking this lack of rain and thunderstorms in recent days :(

Most maps i have seen predict the bulk of the rain to fall overnight as the low crosses over, and if GFS is anything to go by it suggests a good 40mm or so.
Its a pity the numbers are not right for thunderstorms as it would have been a good set up tomorrow evening with the SW swinging back in with the wrap around of the low.

yes but going by radars for last few hours we could have been having consitantly heavy rain but its been just out to sea. Its like we have a device here in Christchurch that repels rain.

Thats because its only an upper level band of high cloud as was seen this morning, which turned precipative as the wind went from Northerly to moist NE.
Mid level cloud is increasing now, and it has cooled down abit with that NE wind.

7pm Radar shows the rain moving more out to sea away from the city so looks like really dodged it. The Metservice 7 day rain maps show heavy falls overnight and until 7pm tomorrow, blue skies show around 25mm and gfs 43mm, yet metservice forecast says early rain clearing for tomorrow.....

5.3mm here in rangiora since the 7th of Nov so getting very dry now and im thinking that we wont get much tonight if any, the flow seems to NW for any rain to move inland and i think the mountains are having some kind of sheltering effect.

Had a few light spots before but nothing since, NE got abit fresh and gusty too for awhile with some strong gusts.
I think i can see some wrapping around just beggining to happen on the 10pm radar out to sea.
Cheers

Funny cloud going from the NNE to the SSW this morning, with structures changing very quickly and "traveling" north to south. It's a shame I don't have a few more pictures to make a .gif file, it would be more obvious ... :-#

Tomorrow (Wednesday) looks like a possible thunderstorm day for the eastern half of the North Island including Taupo/Bay of Plenty. This forecast is based on some moisture hanging back from this current trough, strong surface heating and convergence.

Yes, we could certainly do with it here - 7mm since about 3am (although very light drizzle began about 6pm). Fairly gusty here this morn as well - 72 km/h mean ENE'ers out on Tiritiri Island at 10am (46 km/h in the Waitamata). Those clearing SW'ers haven't quite kicked in here yet...

This is great...really coming down now for the past while. Judging by how much rain was at the bottom of the recycling bin, I'd say we've had about an inch in Prebbleton.

Yes not much in the way of rain in the end, just 4.2mm since midnight.
Some areas of Christchurch may have got more from the rain that returned late this afternoon, but the rain got lighter as i headed out of the city and into the lines of traffic madness heading north  .
Three days of sunshine will dry up any moisture we have had.
Cheers
