Re: Unstable air to start the year?
I don't think there will be a thunderstorm in Hamilton today, there is no Daytime surface Heating here...... because its its overcast now...

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
VERY dark clouds to the south west of me...haven't seen them that dark in a long while...seems to be still a low level easterly about where I am...maybe feeding into the storms inland...no precip to speak of yet, but I am sure that will change...couple of rolls of thunder just as I type this, but nothing dramatic...yet.

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
Lol sorry that i keep posting but it seems for ever since having lightning/thunder like this.
Heaps of very loud thunder and the odd flash now.
Rain has begun again but not very heavy.
Wouldn't mind seeing pics if you guys have cameras
Edit , pissing down now with decent hail

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
Thanks for the vid.
Its probably worth pointing out Chch is now in the serve TS watch not just south canterbury.
And metservice say they have observed 20mm hail on their radar.

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
Looks to be clearing to the SW now (where it came from) can almost see blue skies that way. I'm trying to go to speedway tonight so I hope it clears

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
There's a thunderstorm to the west of Dunedin, probably passing over Mosgiel/Three Mile Hill and Mount Cargill. From Tainui all I can see and hear is very dark clouds and thunder. Couldn't see any lightning. I wanted to go and chase it but my husband didn't want to come with me.

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
Just driven back through ChCh and lots of surface flooding. City council weather station shows 28mm in last 30mins. So that ain't bad.

Re: Unstable air to start the year?
I wouldn't trust the ccc station.
I would say 10 min at most, thats still heavy.
