Thundery in Southland
Last night sky becane rapidly overcast in the evening with intermittent moderate rain beginning at 2200 . At 0200 this morning distant lightning was seen to west . By 0300 claps of thunder from embedded Cb's heard from incoming warm front . As I type this still occasional spherics and distant thunder . Forecast is for more thundery showers in Southland later today . Rainfall total to now is 9.9mm since 2200.

A very active thunderstorm situation down there, there's been a lot of lightning for parts of Southland.

Re: Thundery in Southland
A pity I cannot see above the Cb base here , but frequent rolls of thunder and CC flashes . Did the 0900 Climat obs in a thunderstorm which is tad hairy as there were frequent flashes and rumbles above my head as I completed the observations

Re: Thundery in Southland
looks like more to come too?
as its slow moving?
(and looks like its a series of wave depressions-> warm/cold/occluded fronts moving down the main frontal boundary?)
the height of the mountrains is not as high at the southeren end of Fiordland I guess, where the front is coming across, so its not providing as much blocking as you would expect?

Re: Thundery in Southland
Actually temp is now 27.7 post front. Getting temps what some of you are experiencing up north. Looks black to SW but a Southerly 12 knot seabreeze has just kicked in . I suppose the front will return at some stage
