Re: January summary
324 hrs sun at Tauranga, no mention of the highly dubious Whakatane sun site while it is under investigation. 37.2C at Waione during the month. No stats summary beyond the 6 main centres (these are supposed to be produced soon as the printed "Digest" report has been discontinued).

Re: January summary
Chch's sunshine hours aren't right. They haven't included the 31st - should be 280.6 hrs.
Surprised to see Hamilton still beat Chch though.
Yes, nice to see the North Island with the highest national temp.
And they're still calling the Bannock 'willy-willy/whirlwind' a tornado (could be worse I suppose).

Re: January summary
Forgetting the 31st has happened regularly. But the monthly stat at CliFlo when available later will be complete. I'm hoping there will be an electronic replacement for the "Digest" statistics (formerly in the NZ Gazette supplement among other manifestations).
Ch'ch's adjusted total would be its 3rd highest after 1957 and 1988.

Re: January summary
good to see Niwa has Auckland cooler than normal (as I found here too) (Auckland airport gets those cloudy SW days we had on the last week too)

Re: January summary
Good to see Tauranga now included after my one man campaign!!
According to NIWA, while the rainfall and temperature data are recorded automatically at Tauranga Airport (so they get the data in a timely manner) the sunshine data is still recorded manually by Sun Air. So they got the sunshine data posted to them about a week after the end of the month, which was too late for the monthly climate summary bulletin. However, they didn't have a named contact at Sun Air. So with help of my Dad in Tauranga I found a name and supplied to NIWA. Looks like it did the job!
