I suggest you stop looking at radars and models and actually go outside.
Having just spent the last 4 hours in Hagely Park I can assure you it is most defintely raining very steadily in ChCh City.
I have been looking out the window Razor all morning very little mostly drizzle rain. Stopped for an hour or so around 12-1pm. I have been around the city and managed to drive from Halswell to Shirley without having the wipers going. Maybe another 5mm more out of this system for us if we are lucky

Wow, how hot is it in Auckland at the moment. In currently in Henderson and it's very warm. The breeze that is blowing definitely has some warmth to it.
Wow, is there anyone on this forum in the New Plymouth area. That band is severe over there at the moment 23mm in the last 2 hours and last hour 18.4mm. Could be some issues there with the slow moving rain band.

Are you getting rain with those high temps up north? the 28's or so.. True tropical air woah..
Nice rain here today, few mates are rather annoyed they can't go for a skate, neither can I on my day off... But its refreshing.
The rain is now the heaviest its been all day here. Weather watch reporting an official temp of 32 in Auckland in the last hour and a feels like temp of 38. Didnt know Auckland could even get that hot !

Sounds like a dodgy reading to me, a bit excessive...
Max 27.3C here, 28.6C Grey Lynn, Brian has 27.2C at his place, Airport 28C, and so on. NE has been gusting 40km/h and there is quite a lot of cloud which is keeping the temps down here. But it's very humid - 77% this afternoon.
Its just the heat or humindex, its currently about 25(was 27) and the NE is only fresh at times so its not windy now and still dry. rain today???

it was from Whenuapai airbase , which has alot of land to the north of it that would have heated up with the sunny skies over the eastern northland area this afternoon
(we had alot more cloud cover here, and in fact our wind direction has swung around to the NW now, ahead of the approaching front
with a feel temp of 38 at 27° wonder how hot it must get in New Delhi in June ,Bangkok in May or Darwin in Nov/December or Singapore year round,Must be a feel temperature of 60°.

It's an overblown "feels like" temp. Hot countries use Heat Index, cool countries use Humidex. If you insert the values for Whenuapai into a Heat Index calculator you get a "feels like" temperature of only 33C.
Feels like temperatures are subjective... different organisations use different calculations. MetService recorded 32.4 at Whenuapai, we recorded 34 within west Auckland suburbs. Add humidity of around 45% and I think a feels like temperature of 38 isn't dramatic at all. We have people from Bangkok and Melbourne who have told us these temperatures are very similar to back home. It's hard to argue over a feels like temperature - yes we use the Canadian one, only because we feel it's the most accurate. Again - subjective.
By the way David - much cooler out your way...MetService says Auck Airport was only around 28 and we noticed 27s around Howick....the wind much cooler there, no foehn effect from the Waitaks. Bob McDavitt tells me the 32.4 reading may be a record... dont have any details myself though.
The Whenuapai max-reading looks to be a site record, not sure about Akld though?
The previous record for that current site (2005/06 to 2009) was 31.2°C, set on Feb 20, 2006.
Although records are somewhat incomplete, the old site record (1945/46 to 1992/93) was 29.9°C, set on Jan 19, 1954.
Max here was only 27.2°C.
