Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
My station in Upper Hutt has recorded a all time record (3 years of records) today of 50.9mm since 9am this morning. Still raining here steadily. Manual guage(s) also confirm the amount. Been an excellent rain bearing system for the region. Southerly change came through and was captured really well by my station with a marked 3-4C temp drop.

Moderate rain here now. Temp still on 25C but I'm sure it won't be for too much longer.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Finally just got internet back after a 2 hour crash.
Only patchy rain here with a pathetic 3mm so far. Very warm outside - 23.5C and 90% humidity - could have been the warmest night of them all yet if the SW change wasn't expected tomorrow.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Had 0.2mm of rain rain since midnight.
SW breeze has come through and with it the DP has nicely dropped to 16°C from the muggy 23°C.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
a usefull 16mm here in total
and the humid weather has been blown away
surprising there was not more rain considering the high DP
oh well next time...maybe another week to wait...

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Constant light rain this morning, looks like an easterly surge type cold front. This front is modeled to drift only very slowly north today and it stalls over the top of the North Island and heads back this way as a warm front on Monday.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
We might be in for a chilly day with the cloud cover and shower development over cool air slow to clear, only 15C currently. Warm and humid again from early next week.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
cold and wet thismorning but i see there is a moderate risk of thunderstorms to the west of here due to a cold pool. Unless this cloud and showers clear i cant see much heating going on.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Haven't started a new topic on this, because the models are a bit inconsistent with the dates, but could be a subtropical low affecting the NI later in the week/early weekend. Metservice have a moderate confidence of heavy rainfall in areas north of a line from Taranaki through Taupo and along the ranges inland from the Gisborne area.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
Yes, GFS output is for a wet end to the week (Fri/Sat) over northern regions. Looks like an active front in the mix and dewpoints rising above 20C. Brief heavy falls/thunderstorms, particularly in the BOP. Not a forecast, just model output at this stage.

Re: Wet weather starting 9th February
I don't like low pressure systems coming in from the west that have no cooler upper air. This system could be a fizzer for northern areas. Having said that the gfs indicates a good amount of rain from Thursday to Friday(40mm for Auckland) with quite a high surface dps (20C) giving a low thundery risk for Friday/Saturday.
The South Island looks a different story with quite a deep low crossing and good upper level support. Possibly a lot of rain on the way for somewhere down there, likely Otago/Southland on latest gfs run.
