Some hot cross buns I left in the top oven of the AGA overnight when I forgot to take them out. I just wanted to heat them up but I forgot about them, hense becoming black and carbonized. [-X #-o D:

I don't think the cross buns would have burnt to the point of lighting a fire inside the house ...

The ship graveyard on Quail Island. The oldest boat (Mullogh) was built in 1852 and its boiler is still clearly visible.

Yesterday I went to a place close to Westerfield, visiting a bird reserve set by a fellow member of the OSNZ a few years ago and it was great to approach and see birds like Banded Rails, Bobwhite Quails, Kea, Red-Crowned Parakeets, Blue Ducks, Brown Teals, Cape Barren Goose, etc ...

Hello Lacertae

I loved looking at them all - great vibrant colours and, I especially liked the way how you captured the inner (still) essence/nature of these birds, especially the mischevious glint in that kea's eyes :) I've seen that look in my eight year old son's eyes... usually means trouble... (grin)

Anyway... I like how the world looks through your eyes... thank you for sharing your world with us... do have a safe weekend to come, take care.

Ive heard that Quail Island is set up as a quarentine is that true?, its just when i was studying customs in New Zealand my tutor said some disease infested animals imported from overseas are killed and buried there so an outbreak can't occur.
Where abouts is that bird santuary Lacertae?.
Cheers

Er ... it was a quarentine zone for some antarctic expeditions and then lepers (who were not lepers actually ...), but I don't think they would use a nature reserve as a burial site for contaminated animals now !

Not too far away from the Westerfield Memorial Hall, by the Ashburton River. It's privately run so you need to ask permission first, but I'm sure Russell (Langdon) would be happy to open its gates for you. He's got mudfish too and he can set traps if you wish to see them. ;)

Yeepee ! My recently planted Swan Plant are hosting monarch caterpillars ! Hope they will survive and amaze me with the colors of their chrysalis. :D <3
I've found some sort of "fleas" (don't know the correct english name for them) too and I hope they are not going to suck all the life out of my plants ... :?

flea's eh  do you know... I was feeling kinda bluk today... but, after reading your post... that all changed very quickly... for the smiles thank's lacertae  indeed, laughter is good medicine. Once the caterpillar changes into a chrysalis... cut the stem and bring it inside out of the cold... loved the pics to.

Thanks for the tips about the aphids, I'll take care of them tomorrow and hope the cold weather will "finish" them.
EDIT : a squeezy spray bottle with cold water was enough to remove most of the wee buggers without disturbing too much the caterpillars (even if the swan plant aphids can't do much harm to the plant) ! }8D :skull: :pirate:

Nice pic DT ! Looks like a charcoal drawing ! ;)

Bloody nor'west ! It's blowing my new friends of the leaves and I had to "rescue" 5 of them from starvation on the ground this morning ...
But they still take risks and seem to rehearse a remake of "Sawing my own branch", or may be "Neighbour wars" ...
