They have done some improvements to the river through the town as to prevent erosion and flooding in future heavy rain events.
I hope they're improvements... I've never seen a shingle river with one straight channel like that :-k

Couple pics from near Piha this morning. Gentle offshore NE flow meant seas were quite flat.

Drove over it a couple weeks back and noticed this. Very unnatural looking :?

Looks like the one I bought many years ago as a backup. Nylex 1000?

I had an old Nylex gauge similar to my new one but it cracked and leaked when frost froze the water inside it one morning. This one is marketed by Wetta.

^ Looks like an exact clone of the original standard Nylex 1000, which I think you can only get from Bunnings these days for about $33, compared to around $50 for the Wetta version. Been meaning to replace mine.

Some pictures from cascade kauri regional park in the Waitakere ranges from 24 March. Biggest Kauri trees I’ve seen in the Auckland area.
