Today the SW change was quite interesting, starting with a good convection over neighbourhoods like Cashmere and turning in some sort of a structured "linear" cloud oriented SW/NE with lots of virga.
I took a couple of shots from the summit of Mount Vernon, a bit too early though to get the most interesting part of it, sorry ...

Looks like Megadromus-antarcticus, or 'Alexander beetle' as it's known in Canterbury, common in most urban and agricultural habitats around there.

We were in Auckland on Wednesday and as I had alittle time to spare before I headed up to neurosurgical we decided to visit the Museum.

My attention was immediately drawn to the ceiling inside the muesum building -the light, the colours captured my focus and gaze - I was spellbound by the craft and beauty of it.

I just wish that my time was not so rushed or hurried in which I could enjoy visiting each level and the galleries, take care.

Very tame Monarch Butterfly in my garden this morning, laying eggs under Swan Plant leaves. Also had the visit of what I think is a Red Admiral (anyone to confirm or correct ?).

Nah, it's a descendant of the Aussie Yellow Admiral (Bassaris itea) - not quite as common here as our Red Admiral (Bassaris gonerilla).

The yellow spot on wing span had me thinking that although it looked like a Red Admiral... the splash of yellow kept putting me - anyway, thanks for that _b

These possibly are Kelvin-Helmholtz clouds, possibly strata, cumulus or cirrus ( I maybe wrong and am happy to be corrected so that I can learn)

I typed in goggle using the search word cork screw cloud to help me learn more about these cloud types, identification etc... I have observed and watched these clouds over the past two days I never took much notice of them until yesterday... they are fascinating.

The first pic has definitely got a KH feeling to it ! Not very developed but still there ! ;)

Quickly before I go to sleep, a picture of a Kereru taken near Reefton on the shore of the Inangahua River. I was only 3 metres away, but as the light wasn't good I struggled a bit to get an "unblurred" shot as the bird was moving all the time (and working at 1/30s) ... thanksfully the continuous shooting mode on my camera at 4fps is a good option in that sort of situation !
I've also got a HD video of the same bird eating Coprosma leaves and will try to find some time to post it here.
pigeon_ld.jpg
EDIT : I couldn't possibly reduce the size of the video at less than 30MB (close to 300MB initially ...), so if you feel like it :

Thanks Lacertae... and I agree with you it has that KH feel to it... I had to search cloud types to find out what it was... what impressed upon me the most was the swirling action... and it reminded me of a cork screw... anyway............

It would be great if there were a small pocket book of NZ cloud types where a newbie to weather could easily use as a guide for visual identification... I get TIRED easily... sitting at the computer... and it take's FOREVER to type a few paragraphs when I post on the fourm *yawns*... my cue to log off... I need to rest... so take care of you beautiful.

The problem of YouTube is the quality ... and as I'm quite picky I don't really want to see my video reduced any further ... :pirate:
