Yes. After the May floods of last year, they did a lot of work on the river through Geraldine by strengthening the banks of the river for when the river flows like it did today. It has burst it's banks on the odd occasion many years ago with excessive water from it's source up the Waihi gorge area washing out the old footbridge from where today's photo was taken today.

The snow is nowhere near as low as I was expecting. I used a small plastic bottle with nozzle, yellow food colouring in water to write in snow: "Don't eat yellow snow" on the side of the road somewhere in my travels (It's one of my winter traditions going back over 40 years, just once a year). Was Oamaru last night, Benmore, Aorangi Mt Cook, through to your patch & back to Timaru tonight. I think Tasman Glacier has lost a lot of ground from what I recall & will later compare it to photo's taken 22 years ago.

A week later and the snow level is much higher again,The amount of snow that has melted off the foothills in the last week is unreal. Bald patches all over Mt Hutt now.

Was helping out at my daughters school “learn to sail” session at Worser Bay in Wellington today. The only problem was WellingtonWind.exe had failed and the wind peaked at about 4 knots! Stunning day with a peak temp of 25.5 on the weather station at home just 1km away. I even ended up going in for my first swim in the harbour for the year! #Refreshing!

They say the perfect cloud does not exist. Well Dec 24th when I was at Waikanae Beach on the Kapiti coast, it was very humid with a very light NW breeze, which was forming a small “wave cloud” over the hills behind Waikanae. Playing cricket with the kids and looked towards the hills behind and saw this….

Wave cloud with a peek of something.
