Settled Weather Late March
Bit overdue for a new topic I think...well it's looking like a nice sunny anticyclone moving across the country during the next week.
MS have 8 for here tomorrow night so that will feel chillier. Temperature today way surpassed the forecast, reaching 24.8°C here this afternoon.

Re: Settled Weather Late March
Yes better hope that high dominates in the Tasman otherwise the Cyclone to the north might sneak down.
Abit of showery weather again for the South Island later on next week though.
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Settled Weather Late March
What 'cyclone'? Sorry folks but that Coral Sea low has pretty much been sheared and has lost its energy over the last 24 hrs. Its now essentially just a broad complex low with multiple centres.Jasestrm wrote:Yes better hope that high dominates in the Tasman otherwise the Cyclone to the north might sneak down.

Re: Settled Weather Late March
Steady overnight drizzle/rain has meant that so far 8mm has fallen. Very merky and cold at just 7.8 degrees. Radar however overnight and now still does not have much at all on it, possibly the precipitation is below the level of the satellite beam up in the atmosphere so its not recording anything. It's definately steadier than what the radar suggests it should be. For the outlook looks like next couple of days will be dominated by southerlies and showery spells. Later in the week a change to warmer Northwesterlies and rain for the west coast of the South Island before possibly next weekend a change back to cool southerlies as quite a big pool of cold air from a decent area of low to the south of New Zealand heading our way. We way off yet tho so we shall see.

Not very Autumn-like here yet. Month to date the mean daily minimum (15.0°C) is the same as January's and the lowest temperature month to date is only 11.5°C (this morning).

Re: Settled Weather Late March
Those bands of showers have been rather coastal until mid this morning, so Mark you would have more rain than out this way as it didnt start raining again until 10am this morning.
Some good steady showers though being produced off that trough, i see MS are also saying snow to 900m and in the lower NI.
Interesting to note how short and sharp those showers were yesterday, with quick heavy bursts that only last around 30 seconds.
Not sure about thunder Gary depends if we get any good heating in the next few days, although that doesnt seem to matter in cold outbreaks like these.
Next best bet would be next weekend.
Cheers
Jason.

It has been quite a sunny month here until now but a few days of stuck SE will provide a correction.

Re: Settled Weather Late March
Not much on the horizon except for this harmless looking cloud which tapped into the gold.
Started spinning like a top before blowing itself out, time from genesis to exhaustion, 10 minutes.
Did put on quite a show however, nice RFB and shelf cloud with teeth about 7 minutes into it, defined inflow band at about 8.. then lovely death around 10. Captured over 3 dozen pics from start to finish.
Ed: about 30 mins ago this was.. now has turned into a mess

Re: Settled Weather Late March
Got a weak heat shower here atm.
Todays observed sounding from Whenuapai. Cu would have been under that inversion.

A line of Cu developed across Auckland area late day, looks like convergence between a light SouthWesterly and a South Easterly.
