Wanaka Weather

Unread post by CbFan »

Anyone got a URL for reasonably detailed seasonal info for Wanaka?

Heading down to Warbirds \:D/ \:D/ and am fairly sure that my year-round uniform of T-Shirts and Shorts may not be enough ;)

Pete, I don't think there is a URL for Wanaka weather.

Long term averages.
Mean daily max for April 17.4, min 5.6C, rainfall 57mm, raindays 6.

I've attended three so far, and the weather was perfect for two of them. How's that?

:)

Hmm...66% chance of fine weather - I'll go with that :)

- Love their (Warbirds) "out-clause" re: cancellation due to weather. Still, It's only money. I'll be sitting in that seat, whether there's a show or not - I paid for it, I'm going to use it

Thanks John for the averages, but I had found those, I used to have a site (possibly a now-dead NIWA one) that had a detailed breakdown of station data for the last 10 years or so, but lost the bookmark and can't find it again.

I would say Autume is the nicest season down there. The big boggey in Wanaka's climate is not the rain, its actually quite a dry climate, its the wind. They can get days of howling westerlies, more particularly in spring though. :)

On the first day they're checking tickets like Gestapo men outside the Warsaw train station. On the second day the ticket guys are usually leaning on a fence. By the last day you're lucky to FIND a ticket collector! :)

Overcaste low cloud days are not unusual in Wanaka at this time of the year, with the cooling enviroment there is more moisture around.
Ideal weather for WarBirds would be a southerly with the high moving in as that always gives them clear weather. 8)
Wanaka is in a very rain shadow location but can get windy and can be very cold from Easter.

In a Sw, in Micheal's case, it would show a person sitting like this  in a room of photographs around showing lovely fine clear and warm sunny days ;) like postcardey beach photographs, like somewhere in Rarotonga whatever :)
