Re: Polar trough 7-9th April
Decent hail from that in the Central city, piles of ~7mm hail around the University..
Interesting that the outer 3/4 of the hailstones were clear solid ice as opposed to the usual white air filled stuff

Re: Polar trough 7-9th April
Headed down to Whakatane as planned.
Not much to report. A little lightning and some brief heavy rain from a cell that went past about 3pm, otherwise an unremarkable day.

far out its going to be freeeezing tonight. The temperature is just plumeting at the moment. already down to 6.7 and a wind chill temp of 5.4. Glad i dont have to get up early tomorrow. My body isnt ready for frosts yet haha.
EDIT: just 30 mins later and its dropped to 6.4 with a wind chill temp of 3.8... sure feels like it outside as well.

Interesting to see there were waterspouts around Taranaki, looked a classic set up for them.

Temperature: 1.9°C
Conditions: Night, Snow fall
Must've been triggered by a few drops of dew and the cold temperatures! Would love to see the day it does actually happen.

Went down to 3.2°C at 6am here, pretty cold for April I must say! One of the cars on our driveway had wet ice on the roof/back windscreen...
