5.5° here already, maybe a frost in some areas of Auckland tonight as well...in late May...this is assuming the skies stay clear (which may not be the case)

Few clouds around Auckland now... light frosts possible still but temps have stopped dropping at the main wx stations. I wouldn't mind a frost tomorrow... wonder if I should put the sprinkler on to protect my wussy Auckland plants!!

1.2°C Here, Dp at 0°C atm.... Metservice I think are going to be off the mark tonight, 1°C seems a little too high compared to the DP.
Update: May get a significant frost as my station is getting a temp drop of 5.0°C an hour! 8-o

You might have had a gust of wind rise the temp and now its dropping back to where it should be Tim. MS were way off for Taupo as they said a min of 1 but it was -1 at 8pm. Will be off the mark for Hamilton aswell.

I wonder if they were expecting winds to be a little stronger maybe? I notice their forecasts all mention wind direction rather than frosts. Just a thought?

-3C there according to latest MetService obs. (top right corner of home page) Could easily be snow still lying on the hills there, like there was around Rotorua and Mangakino today.

first may frost in this area for many years (since the early 90's anyway!)

Looking like the coldest May morning since 1992 going by Auckland Airport figures. On May 31 1992 the airport recorded 2.6C. Not sure of the exact min today but metars show 3C!

Down to 0.5°C here this morning, no frosty grass but cars are and roofs in the area are frosted over with white. Our deck is also icy and slippery...

Not often the North Island is generally colder than the South. I see MetService at 6am had 1°C in Whenuapai, 1°C in Wanaka and 5°C in Queenstown.

0.6°C at 6:38 here - currently 1.3°C.

Brr, only 1.1°C this morning when I got up.

Watched the young guy next door who has recently moved back to NZ after being bought up in Australia pour boiling water over his frost covered windscreen. Crack, huge crack in the front lamination.

No, I couldn't have warned him in time if I'd tried.

going to be bloody cold at the rugby tonight if the temp keeps rising at the rate it is. Struggling to get up to 6 degrees. Might be below 0 before the end of the game (it would have been if the game was played last night). Mind you close to 30,000 people packed in tight might have a micro climate effect around the stadium.

And may i just say GO THE CHIEFS!!!!!

Did you have grass frost or just "car frost"? Cars will frost up pretty much before anything else. Doesn't need especially cold temperatures.

Tokoroa minimums this morning:

Arthur's (South) . -6.7ºC
Jim's (Central) .. -4.7ºC
Mine (North) ...... -3.7ºC

And Jim said we were going to get +1 as a minimum!! That's quite a long way off when talking about frosts.
And we had one yesterday to start with so with a clear day and clear night following with near calm conditions, it was sure going to get colder.

Renee is on tonight, prhaps she'll be more objective and realistic...

Go the Chiefs - it will be a struggle though without two top men. \:D/
