Thunder and Lightning Waikato 22nd May

You could hear this coming up the Waikato

And within half an hour it had left it's rain and hail and was heading up the firth of Thames

Some big CB cloud tops around the Auckland area this afternoon.

I was at Coatesville just north of Auckland this afternoon and there was a downpour just after 3pm with 1cm sized hail stones mixed in with the rain and one rumble of thunder.

Must be a bleak (but interesting with the storms) day in the Waikato, with Hamilton on an icy 5C at 3pm.

Looking at the maps after this most of it headed up Coromandel and away. It's going to be a cold night again. Some of the hail is still hanging around and the sky's are getting clear.
