Well that was OK while it lasted. Got to almost pure snow by the end, but of course then it was clearing. A little graupel/snow mixture on the ground.

Sleet showers here this morning, snow on the local hills down very low, perhaps 100m, but the cover looks quite thin. Just had a brief small hail shower. Plenty of sunshine between the showers. Overall I think its worked out pretty much as expected.

Wow, it's very very heavy here - blizzard, huge flakes - just been for a walk, got back just in time... snow laying very thick on the ground, visibility low... howling wind whipping up snow on ground...

So, basically it's been snowing here since 8am...

You could google metars Jamie. A stormchaser must know how to read metars!

But this shows

date/time GMT
wind dir/velocity/gust SW wind averaging 16kts
visibility 5000m
Weather I think SHRAGS is soft hail showers
Cloud scattered base at 2000feet
Cloud broken base 4000feet
Temperature/dewpoint 5C and 0C
Airfield pressure QNH 1017hpa
tempo any significant changes next hour. I guess 9999 means none.

A good 6-8cm or so... having slight reprieve at the moment, sky has brightened and just a slight fall of small flakes. Friend reporting snow in Rangiora...

Snowing here now too (50m asl, so near to sea-level on BP), but not settling.

Double-dangit! Staring out the window westward in Dunedin: very light covering of Swampy summit and Mt Cargill upper reaches, and some remnants of hail in grass from overnight showers. That's been it for this 'Event'. Yep, fizzer as far as I'm concerned. :-(

Had a full on snow shower earlier, sun back out now. Interesting, at one stage the shower was a mixture of snow and snow pellets (graupel), which is a combination I dont see too often (at the same time I mean).

I see your location is 300m above sea level, the line of shower cloud running into your area looks a lot weaker now.

No sign of weakening yet, just had a period of very little/no showers, but it's coming down hard again.

Me and Tornadoman took a drive inland, about 10 minutes before West Melton we encountered very heavy hail pebble sized and covering the road before quickly turning to grapel and light snow.
Snow is settled lightly from about Kirwee then 2cm or more from Darfeild where about 15 minutes to the west we stopped and it would have been around 5cm deep with very heavy snow falling.
Big flakes back in the Darfeild township settling briefly on the roads, heavy grapel before hand helped the snow to settle.
Photo's soon.
