the NI thread has reports of snow falling on the hills around wellington, so not a fizzer there

Mark's right, we're getting dumped on here... no chasing required _b

It's very snowy here, and blizzard-like conditions, getting worse by the minute imho.

Yes, whats happened is the high in the tasman has pushed activity further east causing a fizzer for many southern areas. However, north island sticks out a little further east so will still get some of the brunt. This is basically what weather watch have said.

and its not a fizzer for inland canterbury either by the looks
just a fizzer for CHCH (which is one of those very hit and miss places for snow at the best of times)

The models were showing the east of the NI to be more in the firing line for the trough, deeper shower clouds up there, low topped Cb for Dunedin
Just been looking at the SI webcams for snow, very little has fallen down there. Radar shows parts of inland Canterbury might have a bit
Edit, thanks for the photo moofNZ

Bit annoying from my position - it's been almost constantly black just a few km inland the entire time. Oh well... :P

Woud have been ok for the marathon runners this morning...a very brief shower of sleet or two otherwise crisp sunny conditions here since 7am.

As I'm new to this forum, I just wanted to check - regular updates... annoying or welcomed? (I'm a bit of a weather watcher!)

If I hear the word "fizzer" on this forum again I may just scream!

Christchurch airport had only one hour since 7AM where it did not report precipitation. So hardly "crisp".

We just had our first (very brief) shower since 8.00am Myself- ChCh airport obviously having a very different morning to central ChCh CBD
Looks like there might be the odd scattered shower around the rest of ChCh but all the action is well away from us and inland so far.
Its also 6.6 degrees and rising, warmer than most expected

Yeah, I'm with myself..! Sporadic hail this morning, I'm not convinced it's 'finished' at all.

Arthur's Pass webcam and Oxford webcam both showing lots of snow too BTW..

Light pellets (I guess graupel) are falling, with a few flakes mixed in. Just a passing whoer by the looks of it though. Definitely cold enough to snow here locally I think, it's just falling mostly in pellets (?).
