Frosty High, 1-8th June

Unread post by David »

Temperatures going down tonight under clear skies and a dying southerly breeze, 7.5° here now and slowly falling (slower than I was expecting though)
Looks like some frost possible for sheltered areas of Auckland tonight.

Cheers David. Yes, T-mins for first morning of winter in Akld may not have quite as cold as Fri, May 22, but with a T-max of just 11°C (combined with a bitter wind-chill), it would no doubt have been the coldest day in Akld so far this year. While both Akld and Whenuapai Aero were on about 4°C this morn, official temps ranged from 1.8°C in Pukekohe to 5.7°C in Henderson. Khyber Pass (city fringe, opp Akld Grammar) recorded 3.2°C.

Temperature not dropping that much here either... very strange even with a clear sky.

I'd say this is true about Auckland, but if there's a west southwest breeze running all night in Hamilton you can practically kiss goodbye to frosts!

Edit: Never seen this forecast string from the Davis station at Jamie's: "mostly clear for 12 to 24 hrs. and cooler." :-k

I have never seen it displayed on my station either but I knew it existed, as I dug into the firmware.
Aparently it gives tones of messages.
A bit strange how it never pops up.

You still have many hours of potential cooling to go though.
Having said that...I do wonder if the breeze could be kept up all night by a katabatic from the central plateau....

I see even Rotorua and Taupo are above 0 this morning, how strange :-k

Temperature was too erratic here, up and down all night, 3° sometimes 6° other times, so only got down to 2.6°C here in the end. Maybe see a frost tonight??

2.4°C here this morn. I'm about 1.5km from either the N or S coast btw (21m asl).

I see most of the S.I. E coast towns are in the minuses this morn.

13C in Auckland today, June average max is 15.2C, average min 8C , the cool/cold run of weather continues.

Looks like a change to milder weather from early next week.

Going to be another icey morning.

wow WOW wow! last night it was -3 at my parents. And as Tim said ground frost very early.
Already -0.3 there now. Im glad im not still down there. -4 should be on the cards which will again smash the -3.7 last month that smashed Will's record.

I even felt the cold here as i just walked back from uni.

Hi Dale. Not sure if you're referring to j--me--h's 0.3°C or not, but it was actually -0.3°C. I've dropped that sentence a line so the minus symbols don't end up on one line and the figures on another. ;)

Currently 2.7°C here.

I am surprised at the amount of frost here this morning, considering the low was 0.1°C (usually don't see this much frost until it gets below -0.5°C here, so 0.1 is not that unusual here). Roofs are white, cars are frozen over, and there is a ground frost. Here's a picture:
