General June Weather

Sorry folks, should have reinstated this thread earlier. It's just that all those frost reports on the original thread of same title seemed to warrant its own topic, so was easier just to change the title. Any discussion that isn't covered by current threads this month (or doesn't warrant a new thread) can still be placed here.

Seems I was in a localised area that was affected by a concentration of showers between 10pm and 11.30pm last night. About 6mm fell in that time (with one particularly heavy fall)

Got a few mm here around that time - up to 68.4mm so far this month.

I have noticed on several days recently that when I have been looking at this site Nelson Weather that the graphs show the wind decreases after dawn and then increases again after dusk.

Is there any particular reason why this happens? :-k

^I would say it's a pretty good example of a Katabatic wind coming down off the Marlborough Ranges.

Yes, but it's not the Marlborough Ranges, it would be whatever ranges are to the southwest of Nelson.
It's the complete reversal of summer, when the wind would be strongest around lunchtime and lightest at night, due to the gusty sea breeze getting replaced with a lighter land breeze.

Rather odd waking up to 13°C this morn after all those recent frosts. Rain hasn't quite hit here yet, but can feel it.

Not wrong there Nev, I thought that I overcooked the fire last night waking up to a nice warm house for once.
Had been some very light rain in the early hours and are about to get a lot more wet very shortly.

Hmm... anyone else heard about this?
...As the region gets back into thunderstorm and tornado season the MetService launches the Severe Thunderstorm Warning Service. The service begins on July 1 and will warn people of localised severe weather caused by thunderstorms up to two hours in advance. Warnings will be available by email and on the MetService website.
