thats colder than the last cold snap-1 Enderby, -1 Campbell
and so should result in colder air available to move onto the SI
the models show cold air is going to keep on being shovelled north for the rest of the week

Yep agreed - but it seems drier than last time (probably why it's colder)...and hitting Southland/Otago more... so much drier for everyone else. Think Weds will be very cold for Aucklanders...then easing up a bit Thurs/Fri then that southerly kicks back in again for the weekend.
I think today has been pretty mild really...I worked from home all day and didn't feel the need to light the fire or flick on a heater.

Re: Deepening low prediction/ cold outbreak Mid June
Few lighter showers starting to show up on the 5pm radar to the south which is a start, i was hoping that low cloud would clear away completly before the change but only had sunny intervals before clouding up again this evening.
SW change should blow it all out although its only light in Ashburton according to the weather stations there.
Tomorrow morning will be possibly the best shot we will get out of this system, some beafy showers could bring those snow levels down at times.
We shall see what happens .

Here is another corresponding Sat picture and Radar picture from 17:00 hrs. Hope you all find them useful and interesting Showers are intensifying on the latest Radar picture but at the moment out to sea and off the coast of Timaru, but there is also a line of showers that seem to be heading up the coast towards Ashburton

That front really looks to be organising itself niceley down off Timaru- Ashburton. Could be interesting in a couple of hours if temp keeps dropping, 4.7 here ATM

Yes Karsh i am wondering if a low is forming off the Canterbury Coast there, reason i say that is that shower band has been sitting there instensifying for awhile as other activity builds along the coast.
Looking at the MS isobaric a weak low could form off the cold front .
Acitivity sure is picking up down south now, when is the trough due to come through because that will pick things up even more?.

Light snow shower passed over a few minutes ago (im at 28 metres asl)...looks to be heavier over the city/opoho area.

IF that was to happen then I would call it a fairly significant snow event on the way otnight.frosty wrote:is that possible at this stage, what would that mean for canterbury if that was to happenJasestrm wrote:Yes Karsh i am wondering if a low is forming off the Canterbury Coast there, reason i say that is that shower band has been sitting there instensifying for awhile as other activity builds along the coast.

But its a big if, these things have a habit of disappearing out off the peninsula at times
