what is the record low temperature for the waikato region?
Ruakura near Hamilton has recorded an air min of -9.9C, grass -11.4C in past history. Don't know the dates but that weather station has been operating since 1921. I don't know if thats the record for Waikato but it sure is low.

Just the ice on the cars but not the grass here this morn.

Yes, the Ruakura reading was from 1945.

0.5°C at 6:40am here - some frost and plenty of ice.

no frost here , but did get down to 2c
too much wind movement ;)
this mornings frost for the waikato must be the coldest since the early 90's or 80's even?
I remember school holidays staying in the morrinsville area where the water troughs would have 1 inch of ice on them every morning...fun to break it up!

More of a frost here this morning with the thermometer in the screen dipping down to minus 3.5C but it was only minus 0.5c at 7:30am this morning, so the frosting went off a little, towards dawn, despite the clear skies.

Overnight low got to 4 degrees with light sweeping showers/drizzle falling most the night and this morning. So no frost here today. Currently 5 degrees with drizzle still falling, only light though. Up to 6mm so far today and 9mm since 8pm-ish last night.

Clear skies here this morning with a Southerly breeze, a cloudy southwesterly overnight saved us from another very cold night, down to 8C.
Some frost damage to plants in my garden from a couple of nights back.

Low of 0.8°C here this morning - patches of light frost on the grass, and the usual frozen cars and roofs.

3.3C low here, then it warmed up after 4am with a bit of SW breeze coming in
looking forward to warmer northerly winds on the other side of this low
not much grass growth for the farmers with this weather pattern the last 6 weeks!

 is there a way i can fix this issue i get every day on a frost? current conditions are:Fine, Snow fall

Low was -3.9. Soil temp must be very cold now. I am very tempted to buy a wireless soil and ground thermometer but funds are short. But it is in the plan.

Yes not much grass growth at all since April really. Because we went from warm and dry to just plain cold with no fair weather. Dad reckons hes going into calving with possibly the least amount of grass he has ever had. Add that to that crap payout  :(

re the lack of grass low payout, the double whammy will be a el nino early dry to the summer ....
hopefull there is an early start to spring...and then I would make lots of supplements...
I wonder how a wamer than normal indian ocean but colder than normal tasman sea is going to bring over the coming months?
i think we might see some big westerly wind systems and intense sharp troughs through the tasman?
(i.e big NW/SW wind changes (like the good old days!)

LOL Jamie,
I am starting to get heavy dew too and it reports it as snow fall, lol.
I wonder if we can say dew fall, LOL
In the future I am thinking about getting 1 of those soil temp stations, they are heaps cheaper in the U.S.
but you would need to convert the frequency over which costs $200 from Davis NZ which is insane just for a for a firmware replacement so it can go on to a higher frequency.

I agree. June will be our 4th month of below average temps, the colder than normal conditions will last perhaps another month and then I reckon it will all change to strong mild westerlies and wetter than normal conditions for the north and west untill December. Dry in the east.

Had a very nice frost this morning in the usual places.. wouldnt call it light but not heavy like it has been. Expecting the same again come the morning.

A little o/t did any aucklanders see that massive fire at Henderson this morning? Clearly visible from here & elevated areas of Pukekohe (the smoke plume that is) at one point i almost thought one of the jets had come down at the airport.
No chance of frost there tonight with the way that complex was blazing away

Finally made the magic 0.0°C here at 7am.

Karen mentioned that Pukaki Aero (near Twizel) recorded -8.4°C yesterday.
