Yes - I see that the Waikato has been getting some real cracking Frost this last few days.
In the inner Sounds where I have not seen another cold snap like this in the 8 years I have lived here. Another resident says 16 years he has been here and not seen the likes either !!!
We have Southern faces looking like snow lying, but its 6 frosts on top of another, all day frozen.
That day it snowed down low (last Tues) was the start and the next day we had brilliant sunshine all day (we get sun at 8.05am till 2pm) our temp never rose above 5c

My uncle lives in Blenheim & works for the fire service so rang him when I heard of the news report.. pretty much mayhem in the district atm with cars, trucks, everything losing traction due to ice and frost. He has lived there all his life and is one of the worst he can recall in recent times.
Further north.. solid coating of white again this morning as i expected.. -2ºc in the car before i even turned the ignition on.

wow that's quite amazing stuff for Auckland there David. Might break into some good negative number tonight?
currently -0.5 at the moment. Should be yet another ripper frost in the frozen Waikato.
EDIT that. Now -1.2 just 15mins later.

Why is that worrying surly the air temperature will warm up ahead of the coming system meaning warmer overnight lows and daytime highs, not to mention increasing high cloud ahead of it all pulling out any chances of good frosts.
Might be a good frost for Wednesday in Canterbury provided theres not much coastal cloud which should clear in the afternoon tomorrow.

Something seems to hold it back every night. Lowest it got was 0.3°C in the end, it was calm all night so maybe some clouds came over? I got a -1°C early month so that's pretty low considering this is Aucklandj--me--h wrote:wow that's quite amazing stuff for Auckland there David. Might break into some good negative number tonight?
But regardless the lawn is frosty this morning

hit the bottom of -5.1 @ 6:38. There have been a couple of days this month that have seen an average temp of only 1.6 or 1.7 degrees.
WOW i just saw MS have Hamiltons low for tonight at -4. I dont think i have ever seen them forecast it that cold. We are always a fair bit colder than hamilton so maybe get close to -6 tonight?

Re: Report your Frost, or (how low did you go 2009)
0.4°C here this morn.
Of about 15 sites that NIWA monitor around the Greater Akld region, Pakuranga followed by Kumeu would seem to have the coldest T-mins. Their lowest T-mins of -3.3°C and -3.2°C respectively, were recorded on the 4th.
Not counting this morn, Kumeu has had 7 sub-zero morns so far this month and Whenuapai, Warkworth and Pukekohe have also had 5-6 sub-zero morns. Data incomplete for Pakuranga, but to the 19th, they've had at least 6 sub-zero morns this month.
EDIT: Revised errors.

Pakuranga is really close to here....if these are official readings they must be in a very low area is all I can say? That's amazing low for the Auckland areaNev wrote:0.4°C here this morn. Re: Report your Frost, or (how low did you go 2009)
Another nasty frost in the Pukke area this morning.. again. Its been so bad the last couple of weeks the paddocks are literally dead, just as well we arent running milk stock. Cold enough even to catch the horse and throw a blanket over him, should have been done ages ago but trying to catch him is as lucky as frost in the equator.

Today, all that shitty crappy moisty, SW anticyclonic shytte, is seeming to clear. So I think we might be in for a decent frost tonight so we can compete with the rest of the country.
I hope minus 3 is on the cards for tonight...or else

Re: Report your Frost, or (how low did you go 2009)
Just dropped to 0.0 here now and looks like first frost in 5 or so says with the prolonged drizzle patches dominating the last few days. Areas of patchy fog about some paddocks i noticed earlier. I would say -3 will be the overnight low. Im picking that anyways.

An upside to the cold weather here has been plenty of sunshine . June sunshine hours will be well up for the northwestern parts of NZ however it looks like cloudy weather ahead with the Tasman low moving in. The month should finish cooler and sunnier than average.
