Affecting the higher suburbs.
Yes it is rather interesting because around Christchurch we have only had one shower that wasnt even heavy enough to record at local weather stations but the radar indicates a large area of isolated showers but always out of the cities boundaries for here in Chrischurch. Its only 2 degrees so you would think any showers that do fall will fall as snow on the hill suburbs....interesting!
I think the two areas in for significant rainfall for the next 2 or 3 days are Auckland and Gisborne if models and maps are anything to go by. Some heavier rain looks likely to move into Auckland shortly from the west as now it is almost touching the western coast line and once it gets to this it finds its way in a bit easier. Gisborne stations i see have had around 80-100mm from this sytem so far including 26mm in the last 3 hours

A Lightning active storm last night with most of the strikes over the land which is unusual for June, interesting to see the storm move into the Waikato on that land track on a June night.
Good to hear you have snow on the Hills around Dunedin.
No rain here as yet, or even drizzle despite the range of isolated showers on the radar. Anyways im actually thinking that Gisborne is going to have major problems over the next 72 hours or so as already 80mm in the city and that was confirmed by weather watch so the local station is accurate. Perhaps the heaviest of the rain still to reach their and become stationery. Heavy rain forecast early Wednesday there as well. The way its going the city could get 200mm from the 4 day period. They are nearly half way after 24 hours. I know that ridiculous to say but i actually feel thats a real possibility. Looks to be some good steady rain here at the end of the week and into the weekend. GFS going for near enough 50mm for the city atm, wait and see.

a respite in the non-stop rain weve been having in auckland. nice to see the sun again. its possible we may get more later on, but shouldnt be as drenching as its been so far.
Has anyone else noticed the Rural Weather forecasts for Canterbury/etc...looks like long range forecast is calling for some VERY cold low temps next weekend for many places...-10C for a low in Timaru on Sunday?!? Brrrr!!
Just had a heavy shower here with some good graupel mixed in, interesting to hear its dry over your way Mark as ive had light to moderate rain off and on since around 6am.
Although it did stop around 11am and has been dry since until this shower, clouds coming across from the SE direction as is the wind SE.
BP is acting as a shelter for the CBD by the sounds.
I have a first hand report from one of my farmers that its been snowing heavily all day to very low levels up though the Waimak Gorge area up the back of oxford
Oh you have to be shitting me!!!!!!!!!!! Pardon my french but im pissed off. Just my luck to miss all this I was down in Ohakune from saturday and just got back now. I am still yet to look at the file from last night of what the boltek picked up. If i was in auckland i would have been loving it as i have an amazing view of the city.
We however did get some action down there. Had very heavy rain ALL day Sunday and into the night. The winds were phenominal down there. Power was flicking on and off and even some building damage to 2 buldings on Thames St. Didnt snow in Ohakune but this morning on our way back we detoured to the Chateau were there was about 3cm of snow. There is alot of surface flooding around the Waikato and King Country. We have had nearly 50mm here. + the nearly 20 from the day before so close to 70mm from this entire system. I would go take photos of the flooding but in my state on Saturday night i lost my camera

Yea ya win some and ya loose some.. I blatantly lost big time on this one. I just viewd the file of the 28th leading into midnight and the lightning was going nuts. Then viewd todays one and there were a lot of very close strikes here at about 1am. Wind is still recording so they cant have been that close

I wonder when its going to get hit? I hope you have some petty cash just incase the thing gets struck in the spring.
I can only hope that nothing catches alight if and or when it i gets struck.

I plan to lightning proof it these holidays, so it will be safe for the spring... Fire would be very unlucky and i cant see how it would possibly catch alight.
