Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
Just went outside and it's sleeting in Temuka now at 6.9degrees... Always thought it had to be 6 or lower for sleet, windchill must play a factor?

Wind will only chill an object or body that might happen to be warmer than the surrounding air-temp faster than if there is no wind.

Raining steadily here since the early hours, up to 12mm now and continuing at about 3mm/hr. Temps around 6-6.5, quite a brisk SE wind.

Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
Not much happening down here in Dunedin, the sun's even breaking through at times. Pretty cold around 5 degrees but no snow fell below about 600m here overnight i'd say going by a quick glance. Hoping the next wee flick here on tues we might see a bit on the hill suburbs. Canterbury temps seem too warm if you ask me, don't want to spoil ur party but can't see any chance of whitestuff below 500m unless temps drop later.
3 degrees in invercargill and gore with a 25km easterly at 10am, not much of an easterly here in dun, it's quite calm, so maybe things still on the way? The low's tracking northeast?

Didn't think much would/will happen either but just got our first skiff of sleet with a few flakes in it. Will be falling on Mt Cargill but not setting at this stagesoutherly-hunter wrote:Not much happening down here in Dunedin, the sun's even breaking through at times. Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
Off to Te Anau for the week ...bit of tramp up to Lake Mackenzie on the Routebourne maybe Luxmore as well.
So we will definitely encounter snow at those elevations.

Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
Grey skies here with hardly any wind, if so, a mini-puff from the WSW.
Only 0.9mm overnight and a mini-shower here this morning.

Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
Yep bit of a fizzer for canterbury by the looks, unless your in the mackenzie. Just the odd shower coming through Dunedin, and didn't get as cold as i thought it might. It's been 0 or 1 degree on campbell island all day but that cold air seems to be staying south. A bit of sleet Fujita Phil? How high are you? Halfway bush?

Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
Sorry to those txting me for info - I have no credits left to reply!
Here in Waddington it's been raining constantly since morning - no sign of sleet or snow.
Perhaps Springfield - 12km up the road but higher altitude has had snow? Anyone? I might get hubby to drive me out there later (can't drive for another 2 weeks cos of surgery )

Re: 1st weekend in July (South Island)
I see snow warnings have been lifted for Canterbury except the northern hill parts.
Overcast here with nothing much falling from the sky. Not much wind either but stuff out to the east coming in from the east and to the west stuff moving slowly from the SW ?

I saw a webcam of Methven golf-course and it just looked foggy and damp. The webcam of Tekapo is looking white all over though.
