Re: Unstable period, Early July (North Island)
That would be close to a record spwill.. i remember some years back an ANZ 747 did it in just over 2 hours, nearly pushed that boeing supersonic it rode such a strong jetstream.
Something nasty is about to happen I just have that gut chaser feeling. Cannot see Auckland city, nor Glenbrook nor much else really.

Re: Unstable period, Early July (North Island)
Have seen numerous hooks on the radars tonight just off the coast.
We are getting heavyer showers now but short. Definitly a sign of instability.
Still not all that much in the way of lightning out there. Just waiting on a nice compact, active storm to correct the boltek here so its more inline with the auckland ones. Am hoping to do it tonight but might have to wait another day if nothing comes.

Re: Unstable period, Early July (North Island)
had bursts of heavy rain come through here at 22:25hrs - no wind - another time perhaps, anyway nice looking morning out there looking E, NE - partial blue sky with a layering of grey flat looking clouds and whispy sprigs of cirrus above it - and just the softest blanket of mist covering the base of hills out there - well enough of that, take care.

Ricky's tracker is picking up some strikes, and it looks like a bit of a blowup on the satellite. Hopefully it will hang together until it gets a bit closer!MarkThomas wrote:Man check out the Auckland Radar with the red blotch. Havent seen something that big in yonks!

The cb in question was visible on the horizon from Auckland at dusk. I checked the satellite pic and it was 250km distant at that time!

Re: Unstable period, Early July (North Island)
Thanks Brian, was hoping that I wasnt having a storm deprivation syndrome moment. I have inlaws at clarkes beach but fortunately for them, are out near vanuatu somewhere on a big boat sipping martinis lucky sods lol.
Awesome fog this morning, lovely day today too, maxed out about 16º with lots of popcorn in the sky, hazy, had a very stormy feel to it. Very calm atm and its sack time until the sms alerts come flying in from the guys.

Some nice lightning strikes to the North, according to the lightning detector, they may come on to shore.
According to my WXsim Graph the day gets better as time goes on....
