Re: Unstable period, Early July (North Island)
Thats a nice area of instability out in the north Tasman. A hit and miss day for thunderstorms today over northern NZ but there is obviously a strong risk over Northland and this spreads south into the Auckland area this afternoon with the frontal system.

i think dad has a short on one of his fences around the house. The boltek is picking up between 40 and 50 strikes per min in a very dense patch. ill ring him and let him know.
EDIT: problem solved. He had a big short sparking away just 150 metres away from the house

A small tile of images taken at 07.45hrs this morning from Cooper's Beach -the approaching rain band was impressive - I will be working on the bigger images (6 in total) this morning - did try to post a bigger image of the tile but is to large in size to post on forum.

Re: Unstable period, Early July (North Island)
pretty sure i just saw a funnel cloud out past Rangitoto. It was very hard to see properly though. Cloud was hanging down in a funnel shape then quickly lifted back up. So im partially confident it was a funnel. Quite a fat one too.

Yes, plenty of Thunderstorm action off the west coast.

Some nice cloud structure before that second heavy shower came in. Can just see those thunderstorms to the NNW appearing on radar now
