Water vapour is always very artistic. You can clearly see the warm advection missing NZ out to the east in that image.

Haha
Missus made a passing comment, something about should have married a cloud instead.
Progressing rather nicely, havent seen water being driven under the back door until this one.. louvre windows holding only just but I did hear a big crash somewhere down near the milking shed about 30 mins ago. Last logs on for the night & will check for damage in the morning.
Still should have bought my kites over.

00Z GFS mixing ratio at 9pm. The warm humid subtropical air just scraping the top of Northland. There has been some thunderstorms just north of Cape Reinga last few hrs. But yes, the most moist air out to the east. You can clearly see the warm advection missing NZ out to the east in that image.

Hey David, the low stopped tracking south several hours ago...so that's why our winds aren't building. It might increase further overnight but with every hour that goes by the chance of stronger winds lessens.

Typical the metservce is down! It certainly seems like Whangarei has copped some good rain. Heavy showers falling here in Christchurch now.

Brief shower here. Wouldn't call it heavy though, steady for a couple of minutes, spitting rain the rest.
The rain radars up north look sensational on the weather channel

I can here it pounding the roof rather hard atm. Whangarei station 2 seems to have crashed 2 hours ago with 81mm to that stage. Maybe the station affected by the powercut?

In central Whangarei here. Been bucketing down for several now and the house has been creaking. Heard things flying around up & down the ROW & a few loud bangs. The daugher's play house got blown across the backyard, garden furniture moving around the patio etc.

Is the rain easing there Mak? I see one of your local weather stations is saying 98.1mm fallen in the city today.mak wrote:In central Whangarei here. No it just looks that way... no spiralling out there at all, mainly high pressure.
Some torrential bands of rain now over Great Barrier Island and Port Waikato
