81mm from the event for the 24 hr periodwhich falls just short of my 2009 station record set earlier this year. Reasonably gusty NW (up to 60km/h) for much of Sunday, but not the worst we have experienced. Not many posts from other Wellingtonians, but then again, we don't get that excited with these gentle breezes....

over 900mm in the past week up our favorate Cropp River site.......................

I'd be interested to know how much snow has fallen up high and whether the continued sustained barrage of NW fronts is going to continue to advance the Fox/ Franz Glaciers, as we have seen in recent years

53mm at Kelburn. Prior to this both August and YTD rainfall were about 40mm below average, so both now about 10-15 ahead.

A few strong gusts yesterday afternoon near Akaroa, but no gales where I was. However, we did get a period of heavy rain and southerly gales overnight. Cleared up nicely this morning though.

Heard the rain early this morning heavy on the roof, 10mm in the gauge.
No gale force winds though like many others were saying, must have been more hugging the Peninnsula.
Looks like a weak thunderstorm around the Birdlings Flat area at the moment, 2pm radar confirms an isolated heavy shower there.

Strong gusty westerly and 17C currently.

Yup.. join the club.. the simple fact is conversation about a certain person creates a LOT of fighting and arguement. That's what I was told, anyway! So the result was to ban anything related to that person.

Yes, Jason, I saw that cloud too on the way home from work. It didn't look as though it was going to build to much as it was glaciating too early. I did note 2 sferics from it though.

Yes. Glenn. I saw them but I was busy at the time but when I did eventually go to get my camera out of my bag, and come back to photo the cloud they had become nothing really interesting, so I didn't take a picture. #-o

Looks like decent winds in Auckland all day from the METARs. Auckland Airport is more exposed than the city to westerlies but it still would have been pretty blustery in the city centre.
Winds at NZAA a reasonable way off gale, but gusts to 43 knots are not to be sniffed at.
(I know it's not up there with Manakau Heads, but still....)

Sure was pretty blustery today, gusting around 60km/h here.

Overall this month I got a mean low of 9.8°C and a mean high of 16.9°C, and not quite 100mm total rain.

Those clouds this arvo yes they are starting to look more springy and thundery.
I never got chance to see that cloud looking towards birdlings flat today.

I think the Waitakere Ranges can shelter Auckland Aero to some degree when winds are a little more WNW, which they were yesterday morn. Whereas strong W'erlys can be funnelled around the N'ern Waitakeres and down through the upper Waitemata Harbour, which can affect downtown Auckland. At midday yesterday, MetService recorded mean W'erlys of 65 km/h at Bean Rock (Waitemata Harbour) and 63 km/h further up at Whangaparoa Peninsular, although most places around Akld would've been relatively more sheltered.

A nice day to start spring.

The cold advection due over the lower South Island later today and tomorrow will be the best of the winter/spring season by the looks. And a little trough running up the South Island east coast tomorrow could just about bring an unseasonal thunderstorm to eastern parts, particularly Dunedin.

Should be a bit of thundery stuff out to the west of the NI tonight on a decaying trough. GFS has a nice pool of CAPE out there but it fizzles as it reaches land.

Getting some quite big gusts out this way this morning, some 75-80kmh atleast.
Power was flickering before and rain was blowing from inland, this is the strongest we have had the wind over this whole week.
Looks like a shower belt is closing in from the west so i expect the winds to pick up quite high, they must be atleast over 100kmh inland.
