It's been blue domey down here in ChCh for the last couple of days but it's more cloudy today as the anticyclone moves away.

Some patches of fog here before 8am - and around 9.15am while I was out I could see banks of cloud at ground level in some parts of Auckland too

Already 18.4 degrees here and humidity is at just 24%. 20 on the cards today if the winds stay light. At the moment a very gentle ENE

Yes the temperature sure is climbing for a NE day currently 18C here too just great, dont know about the 24% humidity.
I would think it would be higher considering we have a NE flow and high pressure over the North Island, and also dew this morning.
I could understand if it was more NW but the NW flow is only just getting established over Fiordland today.

Sorry Mark you were right about the humidity after seeing other weather stations simular, i think this is why the temperature got so high.
That and the fact it was a very light NE wind, up to 22C here as well and i see some other stations including one in Rangiora recorded 24C at 2pm.
Must have been much warmer in the Amuri Basin where Richard is :D .

20mins ago it was a stunning morning and already 17 degrees at (850am) but now it has fallen to 15 degrees (just 20mins later) with the sun behind high cloud. Once again quite surprising to get to 17 degrees so early for this time of year with a ENE breeze

Looks like the front to affect Auckland today will be weak so not a lot of rain coming.

Airmass turns a little unstable over the South Island this afternoon due to the passage of an upper trough. Some low level convergence (NE versus NW) coupled with daytime warming could result in isolated thunderstorms over eastern Otago/Sth Cant.

I see that NZstorm and pondering on a wee chase with some others who just text me, moderate risk out from MS for south to mid Canterbury.
Currently fine and mild with a very light NE wind, and 17C.

Yes i see that, the brief forecast states isolated thunderstorms south of CHCH this afternoon. Stunning and warm out there. Sitting currently on 20 degrees with not a breath of wind all morning. Feels more 22, 23.

Looking extremely violent out there! ;)
No, just kidding. Some clouding but too settled for any activity although it would be nice to relieve the boredom.
I'm getting sick of this settled weather.

The "worse" part of it was between 2:15pm and 2:30pm above Ashburton (or Rakaia, I don't really know ...) and I'm afraid my picture will be the only one for the day ...
I hope I didn't give bad ideas to the other guys with my very first txt ! I wasn't out specifically for that t-storm alert, but from Omahu Bush (doing animal pest control) I knew I would get a good view over Lake Ellesmere and else if anything was gonna happen ... :? Otherwise, sorry guys ! #-o

A few weak thunderstorms near Dunedin and about eastern Southland late this afternoon. Canterbury is looking much more stable now.

I'll swap your day with our wet one, even though our rain was due and it's been a sunny month till now.

Yeah, sadly from later this afternoon the sky looking more stable. Lack of surface heat and pressure contributing factors.

Yes Rupert, you can swap. I was up in Wellington at the end of August, so many nice fine and calm, sunny days.
