maybe you could argue that eventualy you would get a august where there was alot of warm winds (NE or NW) and no cold southerly outbreaks, for the whole month....
or is it because of climate change, where we seem to get stuck weather patterns more now? (seems that is what has been happening in the USA alot lately too (i.e stuck or slow moving jet stream set ups))

The highest temperature for the month being 25.5°C at Henderson sounds wrong....and it says it is not an Aug record
This sounds very familiar!!

It also says that the Kelburn mean temp. was well above normal, but if fact it was a record high by a margin of at least 0.25C.

I've pointed this out before - Ch'ch reading is from the Aero, significantly cooler than the city, while Dunedin's is from Musselburgh, which is warmer than the average Dunedin location on account of high night minima.

Agreed. The other ARC site, just 0.75 km away, recorded 15.5°C that day, so a data input error?

Thanks RWood, I thought the pattern this August would favour Chch more.

It has certainly seemed a much warmer than normal August. I called it spring right at the beginning of the month and it pretty much stayed that way the whole way through

NIWA August stats are out:

http://www.niwa.co.nz/news-and-publicat ... msum-09-08

Look for the link at the bottom.

Too early to get data from the Cropp sites, but Ivory Glacier (Waitaha headwaters south of Ross) at 1390m recorded 2002mm, 513mm on 25th. I would expect the Cropp totals to be at least around the 2400mm mark.
