Crikey! 33mm at Laingholm. Three times as much as Akld Aero. I see Brian also had 26.4mm to 9am.

Winds weren't very strong here yesterday, but perhaps gale-force further out in the outer Gulf.
Take a lot more than 70 km/h gusts to cancel ferries though.

18°C here now!

Yes. Yesterday, the visible imagery showed the dust over eastern Australia in a band in the vicinity and behind the cold front. Looking at the last few visibles for this morning, you can still see the dust in behind the cold front. So I would say that after the front passes across the upper North Island later this afternoon, people are likely to see a coloured sky looking towards the west, around and soon after the sun sets.

It will be interesting to see what reports we get from you guys up in the north.

The rain band is moving down quickly over the South Island, and very cold this morning currently just 7C.
Some weak CU congestus clouds moving across from the NE possibly forming as there is still a southerly breeze here and E-NE up top.
I wonder if we will get dust to go on top of the pollen on our cars  .
Update: 12pm Just had some convergence showers with the southerly switching to NE and a temperature jump of 3C in 15 Minutes.
Some of the showers were briefly steady.

No rain yet in central Chch, but feels like it could any time. (could see some to the west earlier this afternoon) Very cold in south of NI according to obs - snow must be even lower (and further north) than forecast if Takapau (HB about 200m asl) was only 1C at noon, and Palmerston North on at 5C.

Still dry in central Chch, but chilly on about 8C. Warmer than Blenhiem (4C) and Palmerston North (only 3C) at 3pm - reports of snow from Dannevirke to Manawatu Gorge and Woodville, and low around Nelson/Takaka area.

Been out at McLeans Island all day. Very cold out there, with the odd shower. One around 1pm was heavy and briefly turned to graupel/ hail.

Raining here now light to moderate falls, looks fairly confined to the north of the City at the moment though going by the 4pm radar.

Yep, 300m - more snow than rain falling now... I suspect heavier up Springfield way, and hear that Arthur's Pass is closed unless you have chains.

No :( not here.

We must be just on the edge of the snowline as it's alternating between snow and a mix of rain/snow... very cold.

Temperature taking a dive here too from 9C to 5C now, is this advective snow perhaps.
Check out how quickly it set in over Hanmer Springs on this webcam, looks like it just started straight off as snow no rain.
